To save money and because it’s fun to be crafty, we did a lot of DIY stuff for the wedding. We were also interested in having a socially conscious wedding so our projects were environmentally friendly!

1) The invitations – We made homemade, plantable paper!  I am a teacher and had piles of photocopies, so we blended them up and turned them into our invitations with some decorative ribbon!

2) The Centerpieces – We bought and found old teapots and and unique glass bottles.  Many of the teapots were borrowed from friends and family!  We spent a total of $60 on fresh flowers bought the day before from local florists.  The moms, aunts and Nana had a nice afternoon cutting and arranging flowers.  I doubt the total cost for all of our centerpieces was more than $200.

3) Seating Chart – I had a lot of fun creating an itinerary and seating chart board.  Foamcore and scrapbooking supplies!

4) Guestbook – We didn’t want a guestbook. I knew it would sit on a shelf and collect dust.  I found this idea online and really liked it so I had my mom paint a tree and asked guests to “Leaf” their print and sign their name!

5) Bridesmaids – We did our wedding on a budget and I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on gift.  So me and one of my bridesmaids made homemade jewelry from refurbished jewelry purchased at second hand and antique shops. Oh and I also had a friend make a wrap for my dress!

Oh and I allowed my bridesmaids to pick their own dresses. As long as it was black and they felt good in it, I was happy!  Now they all have dresses they can and want to wear again.

I had a lot of fun making all of these little details for the wedding because it meant I got to spend time with my family and friends making something rather than paying a company to do it for me!

Have fun DIYing!
