Mine is .90 carat, J color, cushion cut. Ring size is 5.75.  I don’t notice any yellow, but sometimes I can see a bit of a warm candlelight kind of glow.

Congrats on your upcoming engagement, such a fun and exciting time!

I don’t think that there’s a right answer when it comes to color – it’s really personal preference. The warmth of a diamond is less obvious in a yellow gold setting, and you might not be able to tell the difference unless it was right next to a diamond that is colorless. But cushions do really retain their color, so if you don’t want a warmer diamond, I would recommend going H or above.

My fiance had picked an I/1.3 carat cushion and changed it to an F/1.04 carat at the last minute. It was the right choice for us, but probably not everyone would agree!

    good luck!! 🙂

@ladymeathead  My fiance bought my ring from a local jeweler so he was comparing them in person.   There’s so much variety in cushions so I don’t think its a bad idea to order 2 and see what you like better (as long as you can return the one you decide not to keep!)

Here is my ring. It is H color 1.86ct and my finger size is 4.5. I hardly ever see warmth, but I am not color sensitive. This pic is taken at sunset. Hope this helps and good luck with your search!

Mine is a GIA-certified 1.5 carat cushion, J color, VS2 clarity, size 4 finger.  I couldn’t tell the difference between an I and J when looking at diamonds in person.  Oh, and both me and my FI’s name starts with J.          In certain lightings, there is some warmth, but I happen to loooooooove it!  It gives off so much sparkle.  FI got it from Blue Nile, and we were meticulous about getting the best cut as possible.

I had a 1.5 round, E color, and SI2 clarity diamond from a previous relationship.  While it was super white, the clarity and lack of sparkle were less than stellar.

Whatever you decide, congratulations and best of luck!

Love all of the cushions!  GIA, J, VG symmetry, 2.3 carats, very strong blue fluorescence, YG band, size 4.75. The below picture is the most warmth I see in her and most times it looks like the 2nd picture.

    congrats!

@ladymeathead  If you are looking for a larger carat size, then I would also think about going down in clarity. Diamonds in the VS and higher range are “mind clean”. Meaning that you need a loupe to find the imperfections. I have never had anyone ask to inspect my diamond that closely. The SI clarity range will definitely give you the biggest bang for your buck.

    Mine is a 2.02ct cushion. F color. SI2. Excellent polish & symmetry.

Wow all of these look so beautiful can’t see any yellow at all what a great way to save a little money. I have been engaged before and there was an inclusion in my ring that I could see. No one really noticed other than me and the jeweler but it really annoyed me. I think it was an SI1 or SI2 and I though that no one can see whats inside the diamond. So this time around I think I’m going to go with a lower color since that doesnt seem to show too much. Thanks for this post very helpful!

With cushions sometimes you have to accept a different clarity or color than you’d like to get a good cut.

My J cushion came from James Allen, but is excellently cut so the color doesn’t show nearly as much as it would in a modified brilliant that has the crushed ice look.
