I personally don’t think you can go TOO big when you have a simple setting. My stone is just over 2ct in weight but the measurements are about 9.47×6.98 which sounds more like your 2.25ct weight moissonite. My finger is a size six. Here are more pics – hope it helps!!

A 9×7 oval should face up the same as 8mm round you tried on. Literally area would be ~ same if you calculate area of ellipse vs area of circle. 😉
