i posted mine further up the thread but have been traveling and forgot to take care to have decent internet to check up on threads…anywhoooo… I think with a promise ring, you have to be sure what is being promised.  My now fi, then bf, gave me mine after we had been through a situation that felt like hell on earth and it was a symbol of his promise that he wasnt going anywhere and that we would stand together regardless of what happened.  I took the finger guess work out of it for myself by holding both of his hands while he was making the speech he had written so he just picked up the hand that felt most comfortable to him (my left) and there it has resided since

This is my promise ring; it’s a Claddagh ring. I mentioned to my Boyfriend or Best Friend that I was writing about one for a story that I’ve been working on, and he fell in love with the idea of getting me one (he’s proud of his Irish ancestry, so Claddagh rings intrigued him). Your current status (single, in a relationship, engaged, married) determines which hand you wear it on and which direction it faces. I think it’s sweet. πŸ™‚ I ended up getting him one too, but his band is a different style.

@bruinchick4:  How cute; they’re like 2 pieces of the same puzzle, and when they fit together the puzzle’s complete. πŸ™‚

@WaltzDreams:  Haha thanks! Yes just like two pieces of the same puzzle!

When Fiance was picking out his wedding band though the sales lady was like “this ring won’t crack like what happened to your other band” My Fiance was so mad! and practically pulled my ring off my finger so he can show her that the missing piece is not a “crack” but intentional =)

Here’s my ring. He gave it to me December 2011 (we started dating May 2011). Yes, I wear it on my left hand ring finger. He also wears a black band on his left hand ring finger. On the inside of his ring I had “Together we will be weightless” engraved. πŸ™‚

This is mine from Zales! Already had to get the bottom repaired twice from it being so thin, hoping to have more added to it to make it sturdier to stop this from happening…or get an engagement ring instead πŸ˜‰

My SO gave me a promise ring after we had been dating for around 10 months. (we knew we were each others “one and done”) The reason why we didn’t go strairing e ring is because we’re both still at university, I’ve got two years and he’s got three (damn law a degree takes forever haha). We both said we want a short engagement and if we were to get engaged now we’d get married in 5 years and we both felt like because its so far away planning and stuff wouldn’t be as fun/as easy because we don’t know what’s going to happen in 5 years time, with regard to number or guests and what kind of work commitments we’ll have. I love my promise ring to bits and he has one also (just a plane silver band) and I’m doing uni in another town so we don’t get to see each other everyday and it’s nice to look at my ring and remember that he promised he would marry me. It’s also good so people know I’m taken.  (sorry the picture is so huge)

We traded promise rings around 1.5 years.. just before we both went away for the summer. I’m back to school for 2 years and he’s in a rotating job for 2 years, so we both wanted something to show that we were taken and serve as reminders of each other. I think it definitely serves its purpose, I feel much more content with it on and smile because I think of him.

He loves playing with his more than wearing it -.- lol

We made a deal — each had to be under $20 and off of amazon. I think they are both pretty attractive for the price. Mine gets scratched up easily on the back because its sterling silver but the part that shows looks nice. He also bought me the wrong size so I wear it on my middle finger, and he prefers the look of his on his index, but whatever πŸ™‚

@wouldyoukindlyy:  Your ring is so pretty! haha your situation is exactly like mine! School and work getting in the way πŸ˜‰ my SO and I both had a price range and got ours from a little store in the ‘mall’. I’m really glad to see people happy with promise rings

I want to keep this thread going! Here’s my promise ring along with a necklace that I just had to buy it since it matched so well πŸ™‚ My SO gave me a promise ring after we dated for one year; we were still in high school. I love it! I’ve always worn it on my left hand because I knew it would be upgraded for an e-ring someday. After 6 years of dating and lots of talk of marriage, a proposal is on the horizon! It’ll be strange to change this bad boy to a RHR after all these years…
