I bought a couple of cute dresses from Dress Barn last time I hopped the border (you Americans have all the good stores!!) as well as from Target. The dress I wore to my first shower had a bit of a vintage feel to it and everyone loved it. It was $30 at Dress Barn. I added a skinny black belt and black bolero to it.

I loved the dress I wore to my “ladies luncheon” the day before the wedding. I got it at Ann Taylor Outlet store. It doubled as my rehearsal dress:

My shower won’t be until next year but I love Anthropologie for ladylike daytime dresses.

I hit the outlets and got mine at the BCBG outlet when they were having a 50%off sale on top of the reductions…score! I saw a few decent ones at my local department stores (Belk/Dillards), that could be what you have in mind. G’luck!

I bought a dress from Boden for one shower, and shopped my closet for a VS dress that I had never worn for another.

Nordstrom has some really cute white dresses right now!
