I need some help here. I’m planning my best friends shower and need help coming up with games. I don’t want them to be too cheesy and she really doesn’t want anything embarressing. We are going to do the toilet paper wedding dress game and the trivia game but what is another game we could play? I was hoping to find something so that all the girls at the shower could get to know eachother (something we could play at the very beginning). Any ideas?
Also, any input on favorite aspects of your shower would be appreciated. Any unique ideas or details that you loved?

My MIL did an icebreaker game, where she gave guests cards with 1 member of a famous couple (i.e., Lucy and Desi, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Fred & Wilma) as they walked in. Then they had to find the other half of the couple – once they did, they turned in the cards and got new ones. Everyone enjoyed it and were laughing and mingling by the time the game ended.
As for another game, the guests were given “gift” bingo cards during the gift opening and they would mark off squares for the gifts I opened. It gave them something to do during the gifts and kept it fun.

“what’s in your purse?”- the guests go thru their purses and get points on different items they have. common items like lip gloss, bobby pins, and gum were 1 points and more unusual items like flashlights, lighters, we were worth more. you can makeup your own list or you can find it online and print it out. we gave away a prize to the person with the most points and to the person with the most unique item in their purse. everyone really enjoyed this one!
if you want to make the bingo game a little different you can give the guests blank cards and let them fill them in with things they think the bride is going to receive.
another option for gift time is setting a timer for a 5-10 minutes at a time and whenever the timer goes off, the person who gave the bride the gift she’s opening gets a prize.
there’s also the left/right game. the guests pass a gift around while the hostess tells a story and whenever she says left or right they pass it in that direction.

@lilchicana: Oooh, I really like the “what’s in your purse?” game. I really hate shower games (like the OP’s bff), but that sounds like a riot. I know people who would get major points for some of the weird ass things they carry.

@lilchicana: Ohh, I like the purse game! We’ll do that for sure!

it was really funny to see what kind of weird things people pulled out of their purses! my sister in law won for most unique item, which was a lightbulb, haha. everyone thought it was hilarious.
oh, i forgot to mention that we had the guests subtract 10 points for having cigarettes in their purse. i guess you run the risk of offending people with that one, but no one at my shower was a smoker, so they all thought it was funny.

@Birdee106: As your guests arrive, give them a ball of ribbon or yarn and scissors, and instruct them to cut off as much as they think they’ll need—and remain mum when they inevitably ask, “Need for what?” As soon as everyone is situated—absentmindedly playing with their lengths of ribbon—go around the room and have each person talk about himself or herself for as long as it takes to wrap the piece of yarn around a finger. The longer the string, the longer they talk—and the more you get to know your guests!
