ooo i might spread this one by word of mouth – or use the address you want gifts sent to as the retrun address on the envelope – i used my moms address since we will have moved by the time of the wedding im hoping people will just use that.

i would just use word of mouth. pack lightly and bring a big suitcase and a large carry on with you so that you can fit a lot. whatever doesn’t fit, stick in flat rate boxes from the post office.

Could you have the person throwing the shower work it into the theme? Perhaps guests could be encouraged to wrap a framed picture of your gift to bring to the shower. (And ship the real thing.)

That way, they still get to see you open it.

Let me know how you deal with this, I’ll be having this same problem in a few months.

Absolutely NOT on the invites. Are people RSVPing? If so, THEN is the time for the contact person to mention this.

It is never ok to mention gifts on an invite.

My BFF tried to spread by word of mouth and only 4 of her 45 guests sent the gifts prior even though over 90% of people knew she wanted them sent to their house. So after the shower we packed up the cars and headed to bed bath and beyond. She returned all of the gifts. When she got home a week later she re-ordered them all with the store credit on-line and use a free shipping coupon. We did spend about an hour at BBB while they processed the return, but it saved her a ton of money in either luggage fees or fedex fees.
