    We used everything right away.  What would be the point of not using them?

    We opened gifts (shower and wedding) right away, but the reasoning behind not opening or using anything until after the wedding is that if for whatever reason the wedding is called off, the couple is obligated to return all gifts to the senders.

    It’s perfectly fine to open your gifts and start using them, especially since you’ll be using them in a new house with your FI!

    I haven’t had any showers yet, but my best friend just was advising the other day that we wait on using anything or throwing away any boxes of most things. Reason being is that you may get a waffle maker, or a blender and think after all is said and done “wow, I really need silverware and got NONE of that” and be able to exchange the blender, or other somewhat useless item, for something else that you really needed or wanted but didn’t receive.

    We didn’t live together before the wedding, so it was really easy for us to wait to use them till after the wedding. I’m honestly not sure what I would have done with them if we had been living together already.

    Mine are still sitting in a pile in our guest bedroom – but that’s mostly just because we’ve been too busy to deal with them yet!  (and we need to do a little cleaning and get rid of some of our old stuff to replace it with all our fabulous new stuff).

    Although, I did get a new toaster oven that I put to use immediately as our other one had just died.  I don’t see a problem with it, but I understand why some people do.  🙂

    @Mrs.DsBeeloved:

    Then you (or I, since I did this too) would be in breach of etiquette because you would be unable to return the used gifts to the senders, and therefore the senders would be unable to return the gifts to the store for a refund.  The gifts are given in contemplation of marriage, so if the marriage doesn’t happen, etiquette says you don’t get to keep the gifts.

    @MsJ2theZ:  I agree

    I would wait. I also feel like using them would be “jinxing” it. Call me old fashioned…

    We def opened them all and used them. I don’t have enough space for all those boxes sitting around! Besides… i knew I was for sure marrying Darling Husband.
