@Mrs_BB:  People want to bring things to a shower, not checks, or printouts about excursions, so having a small registry of upgrades might be useful.  Otherwise, the themed shower (i.e. ‘stock the bar’ or a kitchen theme) might be a good way for you to go.

How about things that will wear and need replacing? Sheets, towels, etc. And fun kitchen gadgets! Ever watched IronChef and thought how cool their immersion blenders are? Then register for one! Or upgrade things you already have – I have a stand mixer from the 1950s but will be so exctied to upgrade to a Cuisinart! Or how about art to decorate with?

I agree that you need a traditional registry if you are going to do a traditional shower, but it’s still okay to discreetly spread the word that you’re saving up for_______.
