@BrookeBQ:  I think having a gift card theme would be strange. How many people will be at your shower? I would be concerned that a fitness theme would not give people many options for gifts. Out of this three I would definitely go with kitchen. I don’t think it’s necessary to have a theme though, I’ve never been to a shower with a gift theme.

@MrsBeck:  We had a kitchen themed shower and it was a blast! My Mom hosted it. She made dishcloth cupcake favours, a teatowel cake, the centerpieces had tiny kitchen gadgets in it, and all we registered for was kitchen stuff. It was fun 🙂

I have never heard of a themed shower. Unless you have absolutely everything for those house I would just have a normal one. But out of those kitchen would be most traditional/widest options.

@BrookeBQ:  I’m from Ontario and our bridal shower themes aren’t based on gifts. Most of the themes of bridal showers around here are Lady Bugs, Butterflies, colours of their wedding or I have even seen Tea parties or Big hat bridal showers (kinda like the ones they wear to Horse Racing.)

Out of all the themes listed above I would go with the kitchen theme.  If none of these themes are “You” than maybe you should find something a little more you. People will give gifts based on what they want to give you. If I were invited to a bridal shower and I knew the bride/family well enough to attend, I would just ask what they bride/groom might like/need/could use. I wouldn’t give a gift based on theme unless it was something I knew they wanted or could use.

@BrookeBQ:  If you don’t want a lot of kitchen stuff, don’t have a kitchen-themed shower. You’ll end up with a lot of gifts that you might not want, and feel really awkward and guilty about returning them. That would suck for your shower guests too, who would go through the time and effort to pick out something kitchen-related that you maybe didn’t really want.

I think the idea of a fitness-themed shower is awesome – if that’s what you love, then go for it! And maybe let your mom know what you’re interested in specifically? – a FitBit, workout clothes, yoga mat, a fancy water bottle, new running shoes, runner’s socks, etc.?

I’ve never been to a bridal shower that had “themed” presents- I’ll bring a gift off the registry. Part of the fun of showers is ooo-ing and ahh-ing over all the stuff the bride opens- gift cards wouldn’t cut it. And sorry, not a fan of the fitness theme at all. In some cases, I know the groom better than the bride, and in those cases, I try to give gifts I know the both will use.

No to the gift cards. And no to a “theme”. It’s a shower. That’s the theme. Enjoy!

gifts usually come from your registry.

the point of a shower is to open gifts.

you can have a theme and the gifts people bring not be related to them.

@BrookeBQ:  I just decided on what theme I’m having for my best friend’s bridal shower that I’m throwing, so I thought I’d share to give you one more idea…BEAUTY! I’m going to get a DIY perfume kit for guests to make their own scent, a nail painting station, little gift bags with mini polishes and other cosmetic samples, and a memory book in which each guest submits their top beauty secret and a picture of themselves (I’ll have this book made up ahead of time). Also some beauty related games…still brainstorming these. I decided on this theme because my friend is very into beauty products and looking good! The food and gifts likely won’t go with the theme, but I’m hoping it’ll be a good time!

@BrookeBQ:  I’ve been to lots, alas maybe it is a ‘Canadian thing’ I think fitness theme is great and whoever is organizing can give guests suggestions if they are really stumped. Plus people would know you would use the items!

@BrookeBQ:  I’ve been to themed showers with themed gifts and I’m in the US 🙂 They are usually done for brides that are having multiple showers. Since I’m likely to have 2-3 showers (big families so having one big one would be crazy), I will most likely request at least one themed one.

We were going to do a kitchen theme for my BFF’s shower but realized she didn’t need that many kitchen things either. So the other idea we almost went with was an “around the clock” shower. You can google for ideas but basically in the invite you explain the theme (there are tons of cute poems and stuff for this) and assign a time to the guest. The guest then brings a gift that you would use at that time, usually off your registry but they can also be creative. So if it’s 7am maybe they bring the alarm clock you registered for… or some towels for your morning shower. 9am maybe travel coffee mugs or something breakfast-y…. evening you’re into wine or sheets or something sexy….
