So we were planning to have my baby shower in mid/late January (I’m due March 1). But for several reasons, we are considering bumping it up to the weekend before Thanksgiving. I don’t really want to have it this early, but a) it’s more convenient for my mom and sister who are coming from out of town (i.e., plane rides out of town); and b) my Mother-In-Law has been sick for a long time and was doing really badly over the summer, got better, but now is having some troubles again.. My mom thinks that the sooner we do it, the less we need to worry that she might not be doing well. It would be kind of awkward/inconsiderate to be doing a shower if my Mother-In-Law is super sick. Plus, we want her there, and the chances of that happening seem greater the sooner we do it. Given those reasons, all of a sudden the shower is looking like it should be sooner. My question is: Would you think it’s weird, going to a shower that early, if you didn’t know the reasons? And if you did know the reasons, then does it make sense? Should I not even worry about this? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!!!

I’m due on Feb. 19 and I’m having my shower on Nov. 26. It is more conveniet for us because we have to travel so far, my husband would only have to take one day off, and everyone is already going to be in town. If it is conveniet for you and your family, then that is what matters.

I had my showers very early on becasue it worked better with our families’ schedules. So I had them at 20 weeks and 23 weeks. In most of the pictures, I don’t even look pregnant, but oh well. That’s my only complaint– and the only complaint anyone else had.
ETA: And as it turned out, it was for the better that we had the showers early because I went on bed rest and wouldn’t have been able to attend the showers if they had happened later.

I think you should do whatever works for you and your family! My sister was due in February and we had her shower at Thanksgiving due to her work and travel issues. I think it’s completely fine! (and, in her case it was for the best since she went 6 wks early!!)

Thanks, everyone. I think we’re gonna just go for it. I feel a little funny, but oh well. It’s what works best. Now we just need to quickly register!!

I wouldn’t think that it was weird at all 🙂 I would probably actually think it was a better idea! That gives you more time to prepare everything for the LO’s arrival!

I’m due January 22nd and my shower is next weekend, October 15th. I’ve heard no complaints from anyone about it being so early. Do what works best for your family.
