Shortly after Christmas, I was throwing up sick and had to call in to work twice. Now just a few weeks later I’m sick again, basically the same, minus the vomiting. My head is pounding, my whole body is achey, pretty sure I’m feverish though I haven’t checked yet, and my throat is on fire. They just lectured us at work about how we absolutely must stay home if we’re sick. It’s understandable, as I’m an RN in a hospital, but it’s so frustrating to get sick again so soon. I’m starting to doubt that I can work tonight, and I’m scheduled tomorrow night, too. If I end up calling in for both days, that will be 4 days in 1 month. Our unit has been slammed and I don’t want to make things harder for my coworkers :'( Has anyone else been sick this much lately??

It’s going around like crazy unfortunately. I work in an office and am feverish and achy today, but NOT throwing up/sneezing/coughing etc and am still functional, so here I am. Since you’re a nurse though, you should stay home. Your coworkers will definitely understand and your coworkers and patients will also appreciate it. Feel better soon and don’t feel guilty. It would feel worse to think that you could get sick people sicker, right? Rest up:)

Yeah, I do get pretty irritated when people come to work sick. I’ll probably end up calling !in. Maybe once I’m feeling better I’ll bring everyone cookies or something. Nurses love food, after all. Wish I didn’t have to feel so guilty!

I’m sorry to hear you’re sick! Both of my parents are home with the flu. I was sick a few times (bad colds) for the first 3 months after giving birth (I hear it happens sometimes). It’s annoying but I’m so grateful to have a job that allows me to telework. I can do everything from home so I took full advantage of that so I didn’t have to use any of my personal time off hours (we don’t have a separation of sick leave vs. vacation etc). Get well soon!

you’re doing the right thing staying home. going in sick helps no one!
I’m sure your coworkers know you well enough to know that you’re not faking/staying home just because. I bet bringing in goodies when you’re well will be a hit!

I felt 100% better for about a week after I made this post. Then last week I came down with it AGAIN. I mean, seriously??? Well, it’s day 4 of this one now, and it’s been getting worse instead of better. I finally decided to see a doctor, but since it’s Sunday I had to go to an emergent care center. I have an ear infection. Severe. In BOTH ears. This really blows, but at least I know and now I have an antibiotic. And of course I’m missing even more work 🙁 🙁 I’m so over this!
