I think that wasn’t safe for your son and your Father-In-Law. If your Father-In-Law just had major surgery and is more suscesptible to germs, then handling a child wasn’t the smartest thing to do.

Yeah, I’d be more concerned about your Father-In-Law, since he just had major surgery and is vulnerable to infection. I guess I’d say if you’re that stressed about your son getting sick, you should be holding off on the visits until your in-laws feel better, seems to make more sense than getting mad if they are interacting with him….

In the real world ,mothers take a nap with no one looking sfter the baby. If the baby is also sleeping, or is safe in a crib or bassinet, nothing is likely going to happen to them. If your Father-In-Law needed help he would have called and woken you up.

If it bothers you, and I understand the concern about having sick people around the baby, just tell them that your doctor has advised that you not have the baby around people with active infectious illness.
