So I’m about 8 weeks pregnant (yay! I go to the doc Friday so I’ll know for sure how far along I am) and am sick sick sick. The only things I can stomach right now are fruit, fruity flavored things (fruit snacks, fruit smoothies etc.) and potatoes. The thought of eating anything else makes me queasy. I know right now I need to be eating plenty of protein and veggies but I just can’t force them down.
My question is, is it better to eat what I can even though it’s not the healthiest? Or eat what’s healthy but be sick and miserable the whole time and after?

Sick like you have the flu, or sick like you have morning sickness?

I’m not pregnant so I can’t give the best advise… BUT.. my husband is an athlete and drinks a lot of protein shakes so I’m an expert on those! Do you think you could stomach at fruit flavored protein shake? Yoplait makes these really yummy frozen fruit smoothie mixes (with yogurt) so you could make on of those, mix in a protein shake and you would be getting a lot of good stuff in your body.

I would eat what you could right now. The baby will still get important nutrients from you and your vitamins, but you need to at least be giving it some food.

I’d ask the doc, but here is what I did.
Things that calmed my tummy: preggie pop drops, potato chips, (real) ginger, sometimes sour jolly ranchers
Try to eat a little bit of something bland and take 1/2 your prenatal…if you are like I was in my 1st tri, the thought of chicken and vegetables is enough to make you gag…the prenatal can really help, but it is important you are able to keep it down…so, I wouldn’t eat more than you can keep down, bc that doesn’t do you any good anyway! remember to eat frequently, don’t drink close to meal time, but also you have to stay hydrated…it’s hard to schedule all your eating/drinking and have a full time job, lol….but, hopefully you will be like most people and feel better at 10-14 weeks…(I was sick weeks 6-14 with a couple times after…I think the last one was 20 weeks, but only bc something already gagged me, and my reflex is just stronger now)

When I was sick, I ate what I could. Popcicles, mandarin oranges, potatoes, ramen, mac and cheese etc. I had to switch from prenatal vitamins to Flinstones which really helped. I also kept a few crackers by the bedside and ate them as soon as I woke up (which was really hard to do) in order to keep the queasiness down.
Mr. DG had a devil of a time getting food into me, and anything I wanted was what we had 🙂 Poor guy had to put up with some pretty bland foods!!!
