Hi Bees 🙂 I have a doctor’s appt tomorrow, but I can’t stop the googling. The past two days I’ve had these weird pains in my back and side. The pain is located under my ribs and above my hip. It also radiates to my lower back, leaving it stiff and sore. I can’t get comfortable. Has anyone ever had early stages of a kidney stone wanting to pass? Is it possible to knock a stone loose? It’s worse on my left side than right, although yesterday I had it on both sides, equally. I ovulated last week or else I would just think it was bad ovulation pains. I’m just a tad freaked out and I’m afraid to exercise or anything tonight because I feel like I’m waiting for something to rupture.

@soyjoy222: Definitely not your ovary. Sounds like it may be a kidney stone except for the both sides part. It’s rare to pass a stone through both kidneys at the same time. It could be a UTI that has become a kidney infection though.

Not sure what it is but dosen’t sound like kidney stones. My husband had those and was in so much pain we went directly to yhe ER. Hope it’s nothing serious.

I don’t care what it is as long as it is not a reproductive issue, haha! It doesn’t feel like a UTI (at least, not like one I’ve had before), but I am thinking it might be a slight kidney infection. ugh ugh ugh. Just so it’s not my ovary!!

Probably not kidney stones. Do you have a fever? Nausea and vomiting?

I know it’s probably different for everyone, but if you had a kidney stone anything like I had a kidney stone YOU WOULD KNOW. Seriously, most painful thing I’ve ever gone through. I’ve talked to people who say it’s worse than labor. If it’s both sides, it’s really, really unlikely to be kidney stones.

Kidney stones are extremely painful and it’s unlikely you would have them bilaterally. Take a Motrin and maybe try some heating pads for the discomfort. It’s good you’re getting it checked out tomorrow at you practitioners’. Hope you feel better soon!

@soyjoy222: It could be a kidney stone. People say that it is terrible pain, but I had one and it was kind of like you’re describing…dull pain and just couldn’t get comfortable. It was a VERY tiny stone, it passed within 2 days of the pain. Also the pain would radiate from my back to my front and down towards my lady bits as it was moving. It only will hurt when the stone is on the move.

I just passed a kidney stone on Sunday. It was not the most joyous time in my life, but I’ve had them before so I knew what to expect. I’ve had small ones that didn’t hurt all that bad and then big ones that were pretty horrifying.
I work in radiology and I just want to throw this possiblity out there: a lot of times what we think is going to be a kidney stone ends up actually being hard stool, constipation, or gas. Gas isn’t usually it though. Especially since it from both sides to mostly to worse on the left, (that is the path the bowel takes) it could be a real possibility.
Good luck! Hope the pain goes away quickly!

@soyjoy222: If it was a kidney stone you wouldn’t be typing on your computer. I have had three and they were knock down, drag out, need to vomit everywhere situations.
Is your pain progressing? Have you vomited? Do you have a fever?
It could be a kidney infection or an ovarian cyst. If the pain gets to the point where it is unbearable you need to contact your doctor.

When I had a kidney stone, it was the most horrific pain I’ve ever felt. I lived with my parents at the time and it took me about a half hour to crawl about 15-20 feet. I crawled there at like 3am it was so bad. I hope you do not have them.

I agree with others that it isn’t likely that you would have kidney stone issues on both sides (I did but I had kidney stones brought on by medication though). I don’t agree with others that say you would be knock down dragged out by kidney stones. I was in a lot of pain but I wasn’t vomiting all over the place or anything. I had 5 stones in one kidney and 1 in the other that were surgically removed.
I hope that your doctor finds out what is wrong and you start feeling better!

If you get any worse call a doctor. Don’t worry about calling him or her out unnecessarily. You just need to make sure that you’re okay.

karate chop your back where it hurts. Right in the fold of where your rips end the soft spot in there is where your kidneys are. If it sensitive. It’s probably an infection.
I had a kidney infection last November and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Worst pain in my life so far.
It started out dull and achey accompanied by a uti I tried to self treat Due to working 15 hour days for “storm duty” at my job. By day 3 at noon. It was so bad that I could barely sit. I wa sweating in pain.
I quickly drove home and straight to the doctors and they diagnosed me. the pain from noon to 1pm had escalated so quickly that by the time I got my RX for ciproflaxacin and I was standing t rite aid waiting, I was hunched over holding my back and needing to sit. nothing helped except warm comprEss

Sorry on my iPhone. But don’t mess around. It took 2 weeks to fully heal after a long round of antibiotics
