I came home one day and found the guy next door cut down about 5 trees! I actully was happy because I HATE trees. But was kinda mad he didnt ask before.

I think the rule is if it is over hanging on there land they can cut down thoes branches.

My dad after they got there new roof (it cost 25k) he had a thing about keeping it clean- My mom couldnt understand because he walks around the house with muddy shoes but takes leaves off the roof.

Crazy!  I don’t see why they are freaked out just because there is a branch over their house.  Unless there was a huge snow storm, wind storm, tornado, etc, I really doubt that I healthy tree is just going to break.  And hey if it happens, that’s why you have insurance!  And boo hoo about the tree dropping leaves in the water, you’d think they would like the shade while swimming!

Also, if the tree falls down because of the wind, you have a lot bigger problems, like Dorothy in the tornado problems.

That’s totally annoying, but yeah, at least they talked to you about beforehand.  My parents neighbor grows corn in his garden, and once asked my parents to take down two trees that were shading his corn.  These trees were clearly on my parents property, posed no danger to his house, wer beautiful, and provided shade and privacy, so my parents refused.  So the neighbor poisoned them.  He actually drilled little holes into the trunks and inserted poison!!  The trees died, his corn had sun, and they haven’t spoken in over 25 years because of it.

@michelleez: I’ve never heard anyone say they hate trees before.  Purely out of curiosity and not trying to call you out in any way….what do you hate about them?

@Rocksrgn: Wow psycho neighbor!  I would have taken them to court for killing my trees!

I feel your pain. The church I live next to cut down the trees between us and talked to my landlord about cutting down this beautiful tree on the yard. Obsessed with trees and yet- garbage flies everywhere-from their trashcans.

Ugh- it will work out. Hugs!

That’s so annoying. I have a similar story as rocktsrgn! My mom had a beautiful rose bush that grew up latus (not sure of spelling), and it hung over in their neighbor’s yard but did not obstruct anything or have any obvious affect on anything. This neighbor is a horrible b&tch and just hacked it all off and it died. My mom was so upset!

Oh man.  I would NOT be happy.  Mature trees are so valuable!  I would have felt like the neighbor overstepped his bounds by cutting off those branches after I had a professional come out and assess the situation.  But I don’t know, maybe mishelleez is right about if they overhang their property.  If they had dared present me with half the bill I definitely would not have paid it!  And I’m not terribly sympathetic about not liking the leaves and twigs.  They should move out to the prairie and THEN they’ll realize how nice trees can be!  It sounds like you’re handling the situation better than I would be!  Good for you!  But hang tough.  You should be able to keep your trees if you want them.

@Rocktsrgn – Oh man.  I would have been furious.  They would be wishing I just didn’t talk to them for 25 years!
