I just got back from a tasting tonight. My family and I tried a few dishes and no one could find a particular fault with the food, but absolutely nothing stuck out as good. Then, I tried one particular dish and there was something very familiar about it.
It was the same frozen vegetable lasagna that my college cafeteria used. I am not even talking similar recipe- it was the identical little square and tasted identical too…
We asked if they made everything from scratch and they said that “most things are”. I bet most of the items we tried on their buffet came right off the Sysco truck! Beware of seemingly reasonably priced catering companies!

@CrazyCoffeeGeek: Haha… my college cafeteria food would not be something I’d want to relive at my wedding. Very sketchy…

@CrazyCoffeeGeek: that is not good, what are you going to do?

We luckily did not book with them yet when we tried the food and do not intend to now, but I was just beyond shocked that they didn’t even make all the entrees that they put out on their tasting night!

Yikes, that is not a good sign. Having a good caterer is expensive, but so worth it. Glad you’re able to cross them off the list.

Ughhh i think this happened to my Fiance and me at our tasting today, too. The “Pecan crusted chicken with bourbon cream sauce” was literally a pre-prepared chicken patty (no pecan taste!) with nondescript tan gravy (no bourbon taste). I was astounded, and I feel for ya!

My college actually caters events, lol..but we are ranked really high for food. I wouldn’t take what you tried though, doesn’t sound worth it.

Wow, not cool. No matter how “cheap” the caterer, they should at least prepare their own food. They area fter all charging for that service.
The caterer that I tasted with 1st (and actually liked) had 1 fault (well 2, their price was out of our budget): the chicken was dry. But they at least cook everything and use all fresh and in season ingredients.
