We are having beer, wine and a signature cocktail. I wish we could do a fully open bar but hey, whatdoyado. So now I have the task of figuring out what I want our signature cocktail to be. I wanted a kind of unusual (but still tasty) cocktail. Something that people don’t necesarily konw by name like an apple-tini, though they are quite delicious, are so common. I wanted something that we could name after us. The “Dandrea” (Dan and Andrea) if you will. Sooo this is what I found:
- 2 slices of cucumber (1 for muddling and 1 for garnish)
- 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 oz. simple syrup*
- 1 oz. organic cucumber vodka
- 3/4 oz. elderflower liqueur
- Splash of champagne
- Cucumber slice, for garnish
Fresh, simple, new and delicious! I’m excited to try these out (hopefully this weekend).
P.S. the elderfower is in the honeysuckle family, so the elderflower liquer will add a hint of sweetness. Mmm…
Now I am burdened with the task of figuring out what beer and wines we want! I love beer. I’m kind of a beer connoisseur if you will. Or.. at least I’d like to think so. We are going to have something boring that “everyone” will like like Bud Light (BLEGH) or whatever. Then a full calorie domestic, maybe a Budweiser and then hopefully 2 more interesting beers. I like Magic Hat and Rogue. Mmm.. My mother is a little scared to have high gravity beers at our reception. Our friends and family LOVE to drink. And well yeah.. she’s afraid of people having a little too much fun. Which, granted, is a valid concern but damn if I’m going to have crappy beers at my reception.
Thoughts? Did you have beer and wine? A signature cocktail? Full bar? What was your experience?

elderflower liqueur, hmm? sounds yummy – i’ve never had it! that is definitely unique and if i were a guest i would be excited to try it! i wish i could have my favourite beer at my wedding, but the only distributor to my state JUST cut distribution! maybe we’ll make a beer run across the border lol.

We are having beer, wine, and soda, and then his and hers signature drinks since we have such different tastes. His will be a Whiskey and Coke and mine will be a Malibu Bay Breeze.

We are in the process of tasting 14 bottles of wine to figure out which wines we want to offer (this is by far the best part of wedding planning!)
Your cocktail sounds great!
We’ll offer 2 whites, 2 reds, beer and one or two signature cocktails.

the “dandrea” sounds awesome – i’ve even had a drink with similar ingredients before – but it’s a really labor intensive drink to make. you can’t really premake huge batches of that because the champagne will go flat, and making that cocktail one by one takes a lot of time, with muddling the cucumbers and adding little bits of so many different ingredients. maybe look for a slightly less complicated cocktail recipe?
as for beer, i am totally with you on having the good stuff. we just finished off the last our magic hat summer ale last night, yum. but now all the fall seasonal beers are out which i looove.

i also meant to add that that is a really expensive cocktail too….organic cucumber vodka and elderflower liqueur are going to cost you almost as much as a bunch of well vodka, gin, and tequila.

That sounds good! I love adding Elderflower liqueur, makes things taste fresher! St. Germain is one of my favorites.

We Are doing a Goombay Smash….one of my favorites!

@pb and j:
I was going to just take some regular vodka and put cucumber slices in it to flavor it, and then calling it DIY cucumber vodka. I was actually thinking about taking clear non labeled glass bottles and using the cucumber vodka to decorate the bar area as well.
As far as pre mixing goes good point. I hadn’t really thought about the labor involved. We might just muddle some cucumbers seperately the night before and have everything mixed up except the champagne and cucmbers? So it’s like, tke pre made drink minus champagne, spoon muddled cucumber in, add champagne and ice-done? Idk. I tend to only really like labor intensive drinks. This could pose problems. Damn.
