FH and I are doing signature cocktails for our bar, plus a couple kinds of beer (from a local brewery), 2 red wines, a white wine, and champagne. However, I’m torn on which cocktail to pick for mine – sangria or margarita. Our food isn’t limited to one ethnicity (we’re doing a kind of tapas buffet, with an assortment of things) and I think either would go well with the food. It just comes down to what people like. So, what do you like? (FH’s drink is a brandy-based something-or-other from Chile)

I like white wine but if sangria was available I’d probably have some of each, but since sangriq is wine based wouldn’t be disappointed if I didn’t like the cocktail if wine was available, whereas people who don’t like wine/beer might be disappointed there’s not a spirit alternative.
That said, tequila is prety love/hate.

I’m a hater of tequila… so sangria!

I like sangria (a lot) but since it’s wine-based and you have wine in addition it would make sense to have another spirit (as well as the “brandy-based something-or-other”). I love tequila but I know a lot of people don’t, that said you have a really good drinks selection so it shouldn’t be a problem (but only you know your guest list). I voted for the margarita (pomegranate – yum).

Bump! Thanks for the input so far! Tequila is pretty popular down here in central Texas, which is why I chose the margarita initially, but I personally am such a huge sangria fan that I started to consider it. But, I didn’t think about the fact that it’s so similar to wine and not really a ‘spirit’. Just wondering if the daytime crowd has any thoughts to share!

I love margaritas, but hate pomegranate and red wine, so I would stick with beer!

Margaritas sound great but pomegranate is something people either really love or really hate. What do your guests prefer? They are the ones who will be drinking it so you need to be asking a sample group of them to make your decision.
As a guest, I’d lean toward whatever non-alcoholic options you might happen to serve, if any. simply because I hate all beer and wine and I’m not a fan of pomegranate anything.
Sangria is “similar to wine” because it is wine with fruit and juices added in. If you serve that, you don’t need to have regular wine in addition, which will cut costs.

Sangria! I always vote sangria 😀 I’ve been to a couple weddings that had beer, wine, and sangria… Almost EVERYONE was drinking the sangria!

I don’t like margaritas and I love sangria, so my vote would obviously be for sangria! However, if I were at a wedding I’d be happy as long as wine was being served, so I woudn’t be disappointed whatsoever if margaritas were the signature drink.

Margaritas are too sugary for me. I like my hard liquor with soda only, please 😉
Sangria is fun, but what about a pomegranate mojito for something light and boozy?

We did a white wine peach sangria as our signature drink…it was a hit and everyone loved it!

I don’t think tequila, so I’d definitely take sangria!

Both are awesome options – I prefer the Pomegranate Margarita but I bet more ppl will want Sangria

I think if you do sangria (which most people will love) there might be some people like myself disappointed because I don’t care for wine. But that will likely be a small group of people.

If price is a consideration… sangria is probably more cost-effective since it’s a combination of wine and mixers, along with ice. Your venue may charge for margaritas like a single cocktail. We are doing sangria as our signature cocktail, and we are hoping people drink lots of it because it’s very budget-friendly. Also great for the summertime.
