Well you don’t want to call it Katrina.

Couldn’t you just say it’s a hurricane so guests know what is actually in it? I like the idea of a signature drink and having it relate to where you got engaged though!

sweetbee88 :  as someone who has never been to New Orleans other than Katrina the first things that come to mind are mardigras, beads, and boobies lol

sweetbee88 :  What’s wrong with the real name? People will know what it is, and they will think of New Orleans. Seems like a win.

If you do feel like you need a cutesty name, I recommend against Katrina. People literally died. People are still displaced years later and will probably never make it back to their homes. Not sure how someone thinks that’s cute or funny. I guess you could say the same about the generic name “hurricane” but it seems different connecting it to this specific one.

Call it the “Category Five”. Make sure there’s enough alcohol in it to live up to the name. 😉

Hurricane cocktail with a cutesy name about New Orleans? Just call it a Tone Deaf.

you don’t want to be insensitive to the devastation that region has faced from natural disasters.

As somebody currently living in New Orleans, I would really recommend against calling it Katrina (even though it’s definitely the first thing I thought of) but totally think it’s cool for you to have a hurricane for your NOLA-themed cocktail. Yes, some people will snicker or roll their eyes, but if both aspects (the drink and the region) are important to you, then go for it.

As far as puns, I’m all out, but it would definitely be helpful to tell us more about why you love New Orleans. Is it walking around the Garden District? Is it boozing it up in the Quarter? Is it the food or the views or the spooky vibe? Fill us in!

Maybe just call it Hurricane ____ (whatever your last name will be!) unless it just so happens to be Katrina lol

Daisy_Mae :  …I said NOT to name it that. Not sure how you’re interpreting that as thinking it’s cute or funny. Commenting that was my dark humor coming out, but seriously, don’t name your wedding cocktail Katrina. I can’t be more blatant—I don’t support the idea.

sweetbee88 :

I’m not sure why you need a clever name for a drink called hurricane…   I mean it’s already got one and it is in any case associated with New Orleans.

Let Us Bayou a Drink

The Big Breezy (play on the name “Big Easy” and pretty much a NOLA way of saying “Hurricane”)

I would just call it a Hurricaine. Then people will know what it is, and you can explain on a little bar/table card why it’s significant..
