Really all you need is a frame with a mat, you can get a mat cut at any frame store.

Do you have a Michaels near you? That would be a good place to check out! They sell pre-put mats; you just find the size you want with the opening you want (ex. 16×20 mat with an 8×10 opening),  then find a frame you like that will fit the mat.

I put ours together myself.

That is to say, I found a frame that I loved (waited for it to go on sale (those big ones can get pricey!)

Then I waited until the frame department at Michael’s had a 1/2 off custom matte sale – and got my custom matte made.  This was good because I knew what size pic I wanted in the middle and they don’t usually make HUGE mattes with a small picture cut out like I needed. Oh, and I made sure it was acid free (the framing experts are very helpful).

Then I put those together and bought some acid free pens.  I decorated the pens with ostentacious feathers so that no one would accidentally walk away with my very specially chosen, perfect width, acid free pens!  It turned out great and I am staring at it on my mantle as I type… 🙂  It makes me happy every day. Let me see if I can post a pic of it at our wedding…

We’re doing this, except with canvas!!! I work at a Sign Shop & we print on canvas, so I’m taking one of our engagement photo’s & printing it out on the canvas with extra space provided around it for guests to sign! 🙂

We got ours at Michael’s too! I’m concerned that our mat may not be large enough, but if that’s the case, I’ll just buy a second one for signing and put a wedding picture in there!

We just got ours from Michael yesterday! They had 3 different sizes and they are on sale for 40% off so we paid $17 for ours.
