I had my son at 38+6. On the day I woke up from the best sleep I’d had in weeks. I lost my plug in the shower that morning. I was really restless about lunch time and labour started at 3pm.

With my second I was 40+2. I had a horrible cold and didn’t sleep a wink all night. At 2am I was complaining about not being able to sleep. Labour started at 3am.

I went into labour naturally at 41+2. I had zero signs of labour. The day before we’d been our all day and cooked for friends in the evening. Then at 1am the day I delivered I started having super strong contractions every 10 minutes. I was booked in for an induction 2 days later and was convinced it wasn’t going to happen naturally. shanmia :

I had zero signs. I was 39+4 days when I had my first son. My midwife had checked me the day before for effacement and dilation in case I needed to be induced (I had mild pre-eclampsia) and it was nothing significant. Woke up at 2:30 in the morning to pee and had a strong contraction on the toilet. Tried going back to sleep and I couldn’t. By 5 am, I was holding my firstborn.

My second kid was 41+3. Again, zero signs. I had lost my mucus plug weeks before. My midwife was going to strip my membranes the next day if he hadn’t arrived. I woke up at 6:45 am to pee – felt a contraction. Was holding a baby before 7:30 am.

shanmia :  mine came totally out of the blue.  I was 3 days before my due date and feeling like I would definitely go over.  Then I woke up with cramps in my lower back, then PMS-like cramps.  It got worse and worse all day and turned into legit contractions.  So, watch out for those cramps!

baby 1: had checkup on a Wednesday nothing special, maybe some mucus plug loss, hard to say. That Saturday evening, was putting tights on, bent over and water broke (like out of a movie). Had him at 39 weeks and 1 day.

Baby 2: had checkup, nothing exciting. Had scheduled C section for following friday. Dropped son off at in-laws Thursday night, went to dinner. Went home to go to bed- got into bed and started contracting. Went to hospital, was in full blown labor- had baby 2 at 39 weeks and 1 day.

No major signs with either but clearly my max pregnancy timeline is 39 weeks and 1 day.

Good luck!

KittyYogi :  this! I was in denial until my husband took me to hospital and they confirmed that my ‘cramps’ (1.5-2 mins apart) were in fact contractions. I did lose my mucous plug the day before which probably should have made me believe before I did.

I was at 41 weeks and had the appointment to get a scan and schedule and induction the next day. I started feeling some contractions over dinner and went into the hospital around midnight. Zero signs beforehand.

Water broke completely out of the blue at 38+3 and LO was born at 38+5. Absolutely no signs. At lunch that day, I had been joking with my friend that I was pretty sure I’d be pregnant forever… oops.

shanmia :  for me there were no contractions ahead of time, for which I’m grateful. The only thing that did happen was we went to dinner with my parents and as soon as I stood up after, I felt weird in an undefinable way. My contractions began around 2 AM that ‘night’. Later mom said she suspected as much based on my comment about feeling weird.

i delivered 7 days early.

i had braxton hick contractions for a good week leading up to my delivery but they were maybe once or twice a day, the night before i was admitted to labor and delivery the cramping was every 20 minutes for awhile then every 10 to 15 minutes. Ill say i was naive or incredibly tired to not take a better note of what was happening cause i tried to go back to sleep until i couldnt no more and ended up in the bathtub, after 5 minutes i started to bleed.

fast forward i was dilated when checked in the ER, but i had complications and ended up with an emergency C section.

i was told that a little blood is normal when the water breaks, but i had a lot of it.

Felt totally normal at 38+5.

Then my water broke while standing in line at the bank. Been going there for at least 20 years and the ladies got all excited. I asked for a garbage bag to sit on to drive home and called my husband on the way. Went to the hospital and they sent me home… said I peed myself (which made me hysterical cry!).

I had an appointment the next day with my Doc and she was pissed. Ordered the hospital to do tests- and guess what- my water had broke… baby was born 52 hours after water broke

It really did happen with no warning

I was 41+3 when I had my first contraction after a dose of castor oil. I had her 12 hours after that first contraction. I lost my mucus plus about 4 hours after it started and my water broke maybe 30-60 minutes later.

Didn’t really feel anything in advance. Thought something was happening on Christmas Day but turns out I just ate too much. Then …

Woke up at 4am, @ 41weeks with contractions. Timed them for the day, they were hit and miss and died out.

Woke up at 4am @ 41 + 1 with contractions. Timed them for the day, they were hit and miss and died out. But got a really bad headache.

Went for dinner in my mum’s 41 + 2 and contractions started again. This time they got stronger. Went home & decided to head to the hospital but was kind of convinced they’d be sending me home. Arrived at the hospital at 11pm and baby was born at 5:50am.

shanmia :  I got nothing for you because I have never labored and I’m on my 4th kid. I’m 38+2 and I’m an emotional psycho right now. I can’t cope with anything. Everything is making me irrationally angry and upset. I’m having a scheduled csection 1 week from today. I’m totally over the period cramping and the back pain and the cervical pain and just stress from outside sources and my husband working a million hours and so much crap I don’t feel like dealing with. I just want to nap and eat and have someone else clean my house. Ok pity party over.

I actually stopped feeling much movement. My baby was normally very active – always kicking and moving. I realized part of the way through the day that I hadn’t really felt him. I actually freaked out because I Just imagined the worst. I drank a coke, ate cookies, drank OJ…all the tricks to get him going but still didn’t feel anything. Called my midwife to check in and basically she gave me a few more suggestions and told me if I wanted to I could come in for a check. A while later I did feel some movement so I let it go.

The next day I stayed busy and that night we went to dinner with my parents. The entire time I felt cramps and uncomfortable but chalked it up to my pants being tight and sitting too upright in a small booth. I was still 11 days out from my due date and since everyone makes a big fuss about first time moms going over their due date I honestly didn’t think it was labor. As we stood up to leave I felt a trickle. By the time we got home and I checked I was pretty sure it was my water. I spent the night getting up and down to check and waiting on contractions that didn’t come.

By 8am the following morning I called the midwife and let her know my water had started leaking the night before but no contractions and she had me come in ASAP. They were worried about infection since it had been 12 hours. They confirmed it was my water, and I ended up having to be induced. I just never progressed and had a c-section late that night.
