I am a small town girl and i personally think that this idea is ridiculous!! Who wants to go to a wedding to spend their money? And isnt there already enough stress going along with a wedding that adding an auction would be nuts? Sigh…..what happened to a wedding being just that…a wedding??

I personally wouldn’t do it for my wedding, but I don’t like when people make fun of other people’s ideas. That’s what I love so much about OffBeatBride, and why I spent a lot of time on that board before I got married. It’s a safe place for brides to discuss ideas that are off the beaten path without fear of being ridiculed. Just because I wouldn’t do it for my wedding, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a great idea for someone else. And as long as they let their guests know what was going to happen so they could come prepared, I think as a guest it would be a super fun idea! I’m not very traditional and we did a lot of things for our wedding that were "off beat". And I’m personally always up for new and inventive idea.

i don’t know how i would feel about it as a guest. if done well it might be fun or if done crassly it can feel like a money shakedown.

i wouldn’t do it for my wedding because i feel bad enough getting gifts (on any occasion) and this would make me feel greedy.

You know…no matter what I think about the subject, I think it’s ridiculous that the author closed the comments. She apparently doesn’t want to hear any opinions that differ from her own. Whatever.

Now, I do think it’s a tacky thing to do and my circle of friends would agree, but if your friends and family are fine with it, it’s fine by me. Just don’t ask me to bid!
