I went for a sheath with slight mermaid/flare towards the bottom. I’m 5’4 and thin but curvy hourglass shape.

The A-line looks stunning on you

I think a fit and flare can look great regardless of height, depending on the individual dress design. the one you tried on I think the off shoulder sleeves cut you off a bit, so makes you look short. I would suggest sleeveless v neck that elongate your whole body. Plus short heels can help with adding a bit of height too.

The A line looks nice on you too but I think this particular one is a bit heavy looking.

I suggest keep trying other dresses in both fit and flare and A line and consider sheath as well.

I think the fit n flare looks great on you, if you love it go for it, don’t forget they’ll make the dress to your measurements and it’ll fit even better and look even more stunning on the day.

Im 4ft11 and I’m going to go for a dress I love not one that makes me look taller, I am short I embrace it and don’t think this pressure to find the thing that makes you look taller is right. Taller  to me doesn’t equal more beautiful, what fits your size correctly and what your comfortable in does.

I don’t think there is a hard and  fast rule , it depends on body type etc

That said, you look amazing in that first dress.  The second is  pretty , but a  ubiquitous style , whereas the first has real  elegance.

The A line looks better on you. The fit and flare draws the eyes down to the knees, which makes you look shorter. The A line is much more flattering. I am petite and went with an A line as well.

I’m 5’0” and a curvy inverted triangle shape and I went for an A-line. I think it’s a universally flattering cut.

I like the first dress on you (second makes you look shorter) but I say keep looking! You can do better.
