I live in Florida but I’m having my wedding in Connecticut. It seems like doing centerpieces with real flowers is going to be very difficult but I can’t see paying a florist all of that money to do something that I know I could do on my own. Do you think silk flowers are tacky? Also, where would be the best place to get good quality silk flowers for cheap? All comments are appreciated!!

It depends on the type of fake flowers you get.
We spent a little extra to get the Real Touch flowers; no one believed me when I told them they weren’t real!! They look and feel real; the only noticeable difference is that there’s obviously no smell.
Do you guys have Hobby Lobby in FL? They run frequent 50% specials; the flowers are normally anywhere from $8-$12 per stem, but you can get them for $4-$6 when they are running sales!
I also ordered a Real Touch bouquet and some faux floral decorations from Wedideas.com and loved the result… even their fakes that weren’t RT were really high-quality.

@brideatbeach: Unfortunately we don’t have a Hobby Lobby in FL! 🙁 I will check online though and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sometimes fake flowers (the good kind) are just as expensive as buying real flowers from an online wholesaler. for instance, gerber daisies are $1.47 online, but $1.80 fake. In the case of flowers like orchids and peonies you will save to a degree, online they are $6.00 and fake they are $3.50. Flowers like garden roses are about $2.50 online and they may be around the same or a bit more for fake. If you want to DIY, do a trial run with an online wholesaler and see if you are pleased with the results, the only reason people use florists is their expertise in arranging boquets and to save themselves the trouble of doing all their own flowers, if you are going to do it anyway go with real ones online.
