The term “fascinator” came to be very early in the 20th century- the feathers and sparkle was said to fascinate others and bring attention to the wearer- to go with the flashy style of 20’s charleston. While a silly name, it was right on par with the term “flappers”.

I still think STD’s are funny.  I laugh every time I see that abbreviation.

I agree with Save-The-Date Cards. Totally makes me giggle. Every now and then I also mistakenly read Future Mother-In-Law as FML, which for some people is one and the same, although fortunately not for me ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have an aversion to the words bomboniere and pomander. LOL!

Wait I’m confused!  I know Future Mother-In-Law, but what is FML??  (hehe I have been up and working since 5am this morning, so please ignore me if this is a really ignorant question!!)

speaking of FML… one of the weddings-only merchandise sites (Exclusively Weddings, maybe??) had a monogram cake topper they were displaying on ther site and the chosen monogram for the photo was FML… really? Coincidence or someone going through a nasty divorce? lol

Not wedding related, but I totally agree that I can’t stand the word “panties!” I much prefer the slightly more immature “undies” Tongue out.

  1. STD’s:  My Fiance freaked out when he heard me say I had to send out the Std’s.  He was like   ?????  Think about it!
  2. tussy mussy:  That sounds like something unmentionable.  Really does.  it’s a sterling silver holder which holds a bouquet basically.
  3. trosseau:  your going away outfit and clothes for the honeymoon.  Wierd name also.  Reminds me of Jacque Closeau or Inspector Closeau!

Message board culture bothers me more than wedding terminology.  Everything gets abbreviated.  It’s not that much harder to type Save the Date instead of STD, and it spares an unfortunate association.  Others that bother me are “bout” for boutonnière, “crinnie” for crinoline, and the million and one different two initial references to the man in one’s life.  Darling Husband, Dear Fiance, SO, FH … and what the heck does Fiance stand for?  Future intended?  I can’t make sense of it.
