Forgive me for this post , but I’m just human!!! I’ve just been to my cousin’s wedding on May 19 and on June 30 I’m to go to my FH’s cousin’s wedding. Two weddings before my big day, July 21. Well, I might sound silly, selfish, jealous and even insecure, but whenever someone told me how beautiful the bride (my cousin) looked and how stunning the dress was, it kind of hurt me. I think my cousin looked very pretty too and love her, she’s a sweet girl. However I can’t help feeling a little uncomfortable. I’m going to face another wedding on June 30 and I’m afraid i’m gonna feel the same way. Even if poople probably don’t mean that, I feel like they are comparing me to the bride, especially when it comes to my closest friends who saw my dress, since they came to my fittings. Is there anyone who felt the same on similar occasions?

Um, no. What are they supposed to say? “She’s an okay bride.” Just so you feel better about yourself. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

@sasi: Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Every bride deserves to be told she’s beautiful on HER day. It’s silly to even think they’re comparing you to her, after all it’s HER day, people are going to talk about HER. You’ll get the same comments on YOUR day. Not to mention they’re months apart, I doubt anyone is going to still be thinking about your cousin’s wedding(s).

While I think the “you’re the prettiest bride I’ve ever seen” is a bit cliché since you always hear that, I do think each bride is beautiful for their own reasons. They were just complimenting her just as they will for you. I don’t think they make a compliment to her and think “yeah you look better than she will” because you know you’ll look stunning on your day. Hope you don’t feel bad at the next one.

Thanks for sharing your opinions. I can understand I sound ridiculous…that’s why I call it Silly bride’s vent.

Sorry you feel like that but if it too hard for you to face then maybe you should decline the invites rather than be upset/jealous/negative on another brides big day. I only say that because since we are human our emotions can often show unintentionally on our faces!
