Hey Bees…so I am thinking about Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses and am discouraged by the fact that they are so simple and so expensive. I was thinking I might just go to the outlet mall and look for dresses that I could just buy and mail to the girls/get reimbursed. Is this a stupid idea? The only problem I see is not fitting right…but you would have the same problem with actual Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses too, right? Or maybe this is just totally weird…

@slg47: I’d take them with you, just in case. Not a silly idea at all, though!

I had all of my girls order a dress that was on sale at J Crew online. I know a few girls are needing to have a few alterations done but that is the same with any maids dress. Overall, if you don’t like your typical maids dress then search out reg dresses for what you are wanting. Just make sure you have their EXACT size! I know some girls like to say they are a size smaller and then can’t fit in the dress.

Nope. This is one of my ideas as well. I don’t see the point of paying $150-300 on a dress that no one will ever wear again.

I love the idea, but I’d be careful about the reimbursement part. I’d either buy the dresses for your girls or tell them to order a certain dress online.

My BMs dresses came from Holy Clothing and cost about $35 per. They weren’t fancy but I thought they were nice.

@MadtownBride: yeah I was thinking if I found cheap ones I might just buy them…when I thought about it reimbursement just sounded…not right. it definitely doesn’t hurt to look though!

do the j. crew dresses usually go on sale at the end of the season (for the color)…that could be an option too-I just hate asking people to spend so much on a simple dress! I see they have their Summer 2010 colors on sale now…

I’m having my BMs pick little black dresses. I’ll have a few requirements with regards to length and general style, but mostly its about them finding a dress that they love, and can wear again and again. Its especially helpful, since three of them are not local to me. Maybe you could do something like that? Pick the color, and establish some basic guidelines and let them pick the dresses?

I personally have a really hard time finding dresses that fit, and it would be really hard for a person to buy a dress for me in the right size to begin with, so I don’t think I would like to not be able to try on a dress/be able to tell before trying it on as well.
Are you opposed to them not all wearing the same dress, because there is always the option of giving them a color and letting them choose their own dress. Maybe you could give them some guidelines to stay within as well, such as length, strapless, sleeves, style ect.

I think its so smart to find dresses at a regular store that your BM’s could wear again..or if not, at least they’re not spending $200 on it. I took my BM’s to H&M and found cute $35 dresses! I would pick a store that each of them have access to, since everyone is in a different state. Its hard to just order a dress without knowing how it’ll fit. Good luck =)

I had the same idea. Unfortunately for me, it didn’t work out. I couldn’t find the same color dresses in the right sizes (my girls are a wide range of sizes). I wish you better luck!

I’m getting my bridesmaids dresses from lightinthebox.com
I’ve not ordered anything from them before, but they have really great reviews and you can find some really lovely dresses for under $100. They have loads of different styles and colours to choose from and if you don’t trust the colour on your monitor you can have them send you out a colour swatch. The only thing is, you are recommended to order all the dresses in one lot so that there is not differences in the colour. Maybe you could buy the dress for your Bridesmaid or Best Man as their gift?
