I usually get my script for BC at the gyno at the twice yearly checkups, knocks two birds with one stone.

You can get it from a family doc 🙂

But i would highly reccomend seeing  a GYN just because we are women and are vaginas are rather silent even if there is a problem 😉

I have a personal doctor (I dislike family doctors because I don’t want kids in my waiting rooms) and a gyno.

I’ve always gotten birth control from the gyno. I strongly suggest you go for yearly gyno appointments at the very least to get pap smears and possibly STD tests (if you’ve ever been sexually active).

I have both. The times that I’ve gotten BC it’s either been from Planned Parenthood or my gyno.

Some doctors are both general practitioners/internists and OB/GYNs. My first doctor as an adult was both.

Since then I’ve had both a GP and OB/GYN.

I’d suggest seeing an OB/GYN, you can ask your family doctor for a GYN recommendation.

Although actually I see you are In Canada- I am comming from an American perspective, so I’m not sure about what various Dr’s can and can’t do.

I also think that pills can be a tough thing to finally get the right one for your body chemistry- im not sure if family docs are as specialized in BC pills as say a specialist would be. A family doc may just write you a script for whatever common and popular pill is available . not knowing enough to get specific or explore options.

I have a family doctor that also does OB/GYN (not all do). He takes care of all of my health problems/needs. If there is something that he feels one of us (My 2 kids and hubs see the same doctor) needs to see a specialist about he refers us out. I like it because he and his staff know us very well since they see us more then once a year.

I have a family doctor and just get the prescription from her, but she does my paps and pelvic exams too. Have you had a pelvic exam/pap before?

I have both and I’ve always gotten exams/BC from the gyno.
