I’m going through something similar. My SIL (who is not a BM) is insisting that she’s going to wear a full length gown and I can not sway her otherwise. My Maid/Matron of Honor (I’m only having 1) is wearing a short dress.

Our wedding is afternoon, mid July (so it will be hot) and not formal. I don’t understand her incessant NEED to buy this gown. I’ve hinted and suggested a dozen different times without coming right out and saying NO.

I think she really feels like she needs to be special so whatever. I’m trying to just laugh it off. You’re the bride, its your day, you’ll be so beautiful I’m sure no one will notice her.

Like her brdiesmaid dress is better than your wedding dress? Her guest dress is better? Her dress for a bridal shower? What event?

she may end up looking foolish.

@tcgstar:  +1 exactly what I was thinking.

Laugh it off. Everyone will still know you are the bride. You will look appropriate for the formality of the event, whereas she will probably look a bit silly. Life’s too short to stress about stuff like this. Wear what makes you happy and let her do the same – it doesn’t affect you if you don’t let it.

Don’t concern yourself with what your wedding guests are wearing.

@Aquaria:  Everyone is going to be focusing on YOU, the bride!

don’t worry. Let it roll off your shoulders and think positive. You will look beautiful, and everyone is going to be complimenting you, not her. They are there for you and your Fiance and celebrating you marriage! Smile, and relax, you’re day will be awesome 🙂

Don’t worry about it, everyone knows who got married that day.  I’ve seen an out of control SIL at a wedding before, and everyone knew she was having a hard time not being the center of attention.

Does anyone remember the scene in bridesmaids where they are having the wedding shower and the rich new friend comes out in a full length gown? Yeah….
