I read this book recently, and I liked it. It dragged a little at the end and then came to abrupt halt, but all in all, it was engaging. Maybe a 7 out of 10?
This past week, I saw the movie. Um. Did the script writers even read the book? While I understand that there is usually too much detail in the books to include it all in the movie, I was rather disappointed by how much was left out. On top of that, the characters in the book were portrayed completely differently in the movie. The dad was talkative and almost pleasant in the movie – not so in the book. The brother was an arse in the movie – he was pleasant in the book. The mom stops being a meek housewife and stands up for herself in the book – not so in the movie. Also, Tiffany’s character is supposed to be in her 40s in the book (or at least older than Pat who was 35 (?) in the book) – 23 year old Jennifer Lawrence isn’t convincing anyone even though she did a good job. Plus, why add that cop to the movie – he wasn’t even in the book.
One of the key parts of the book that I was hoping to see in the movie was the ridiculous behavior of Eagles fans and football fans alike (AAAAAAAAAGHH!!! E-A-G-L-E-S!). There was none of that in the movie. I was very underwhelmed.
All in all, if you want to watch the movie, don’t read the book. And if you want to read the book, don’t watch the movie.
