So I just ordered our invite envelopes, and they’re a beautiful dark purple. My mom suggested hand-writing the addresses with a silver pen or marker… does anyone have suggestions/experience for a brand of marker or pen that won’t smudge or run in the mail?
Something like a sharpie in metallic silver, or a paint-based pen?

Sharpies are the best. go to like AC MOORE, Jo Ann Fabrics, Michaels or even true value/ace hardware. i use sharpie calligraphy pens daily at work for formal items. There is a whole line of calligraphy pens you can choose from- i usually take a small note pad with me- then try them out in the store..ac moore sells them individually so its easy to sample them

@atalante: I’m using a DecoColor calligraphy opaque paint marker in silver for my DIY invitations, and it hasn’t smudged at all. It dries in a second, which is incredibly useful. However, because the nib is so darn wide, I’m having to whittle it down with a razor before I start writing. This size problem was one I found with just about every single brand of calligraphy paint pen out there.

Or you can do those beautiful wrap around labels.
Michaels has a ton and you can try them out in the store!

That’s my backup plan. but I’m hoping to be able to do them by hand – I’ve got aome cool purple-on-purple stampy action I’d like to use. 🙂
