Hi everyone! This is my very first post ever. I have been wavering on my dress selection pretty much since I got it. It is a very simple J Crew dress (Margeaux is the style) in duchess satin. I really like it but I have always wanted lace and for some reason decided to forget about my lace obsession and get this dress. It was extremely inexpensive (less than $250) and it’s flattering (I think at least) but I cannot for the life of me decide whether or not it is “the one”. I also can’t stop looking at other dresses, especially beautiful lace ones. I actually ended up purchasing a dress for the reception which is a shorter lacey dress from Modcloth but am having second thoughts on having 2 dresses as the logistics of changing out of one into the other in the middle of the wedding sounds like a hassle. This is actually my second wedding dress since starting the planning process in December, the first one was a Justin Alexander 9465 that I ended up selling. I just cannot make up my mind and maybe I’d find a fault with any dress I get, I just don’t know. I don’t want to regret my dress. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a photo of the dress, hopefully it isn’t huge.

It looks lovely. Maybe a chantilly veil or something? If you really don’t love it, it might be worth going to try on some other dresses… at least you didn’t spend thousands on it. But I had a very simple dress with out beading or lace and thought it was perfect. It really depends on your ceremony and vision for yourself. I think you may regret settling.

I think you’re right about settling. Everyone keeps telling me that my dress is great and that I’m crazy for wanting to change it again so I feel pressured into keeping the one I have. The wedding is in 6 months so the time to order a new dress would be now. Yikes.

That is a really flattering, simple dress, which should be comfortable to wear (so many wedding dresses are uncomfortable). And, because it is plain satin, you can add to it however you wish. You can wear a lace bolero, or a lace veil, or add a lace sash to the waist. Or you could go crazy with jewellery and have a statement neckace and bracelet.
I’m going to be an encore bride, and I am wearing a satin tea length dress. I have very ornately beaded shoes as a feature. The dress comes with a wide, satin sash, but I may wear a beaded sash, instead.

BrightSide: I never thought of a lace bolero. Do you think it would look ok with the style of sleeve that this dress has?

I think it would depend upon how tight the bolero is around the shoulder / sleeve.
Was your dream dress entirely lace? Because, you could add some feature to the dress in lace. Maybe a lace, detatchable train. Or lace edge to the sleeves.

It sounds like you really want a lace dress, so I think you should get one.
There isn’t any good reason to not have a lace dress if that’s what you like. There are so many beautiful, well priced dresses out there. I think you could find one that you love.
Why settle?

Sorry, but I really don’t think that is flattering on you. It also way too plain, IMO.

doeydo: It’s a bit tight on me now (gained weight since I got the dress but am in the process of losing) and hasn’t been altered. I have a rhinestone belt to go with it but I still feel like it might be too plain. Thanks for your honesty.

I agreIt sorte with PPs that it doesn’t seem like a flattering silhouette on you. It sort of looks like a vintage nurses uniform. I think, if you want lace, youc should get lace.

I think I’m going to try to sell this one. I feel like I’m being ridiculous but I’d rather feel ridiculous now than regretful later. Thanks everyone, I will update if I do end up finding a new dress.

jameyjam: I am in your situation of being unsure about my dress and I think you have made a very valid point about feeling ridiculous now instead of regretful on the day!
You have helped me make my decision that I shall sell mine and carry on looking for ‘the one’! I may never find it and have to settle in six months time but at least I will feel that I tried!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

My dress was also quite simple, but when I tried it on it made my figure look so good I had to have it. I bought a crystal bridle sash to go round the waist and it looks just about right now. You could have some applique added to it if you wanted to jazz it up a bit, but I think it looks lovely.
