    Actually, neither, but I don’t have a better suggestion.

    I think the Oxfords are much better! But do they have to be patent leather? I’m not a fan– too shiny!

    I like Oxford style shoes on anyone, especially if they are the decorative kind with the punched patterns at the edges of the leather pieces. But the reason I picked Oxfords for this is because, frankly, the pumps are just hideous shoes. :/ Sorry! (They look like clown shoes or a bad approximation of Renaissance or Puritan footwear to me in this picture!)

    HUGE No Way to the second pair (no offense). The first pair is nice, but the patent leather is a bit flashy. If it has to be these two, definitely the first, hands down.

    @Duncan:  Aha, I see. I guess I don’t know much about menswear!

    Now that you explain the reasoning for the patent leather needing to go with the satin of the tuxedo lapels and trousers stripe, I can definitely see how that would look nice and be elegant.

    Which of the two do you actually prefer? Which do you think your FI would find to be nicer on you? That’s really what it comes down to, as you don’t have many options for correct shoes for formal dress anyway.

    If those are the only options, I prefer the pumps.

    For anyone who doesn’t know

    Dinner Suit is the British teminology for Tuxedo

    And a high gloss (patent leather shoe) is the appropriate shoe to match with it for events outside the home…

    — — —

    Personally, of these two…

    I prefer the Patent Oxfords … and YES it is because the Opera Pumps are a tad too feminine for me… believe it to be all about the cut of the shoe with the patent combined… (because I have seen Patent Loafers without the grosgrain in my lifetime that were just as masculine as a more conservative mans shoe)

    Mr TTR, lol I can’t get him into a pair of Patent Leather Shoes cause he says in the 21st Century (in his mind) they are indeed too feminine

    (Haven’t given up on the possibility of one day seeing him match his Tuxedo with a pair of Silk Belgian Shoes, or Prince Albert Slippers… lol, but then again we haven’t had the opportunity… and probably never will to have a formal evening at home… dang.  Now these would fit his “style” as they’d be far more comfy & casual for wearing at home particularly)

    When the tux makes an appearance in our lives…

    Mr TTR much prefers to shine up his usual dress shoes… Oxfords to a nice high gloss finish (he seems to take great pride in this) and match them up with his tux.

    Hope this helps,
