Anyone have recommendations for a cantor for a Catholic Mass in Worcester? I have heard several and, while they have lovely voices are bit too “opera” like for our taste and would prefer something more contemporary and less dramatic.

Just a warning, my uncle is a Catholic priest and he said if the church has a contract with a cantor then they might get angry if you don’t use them.

Wish I was in Boston! I would totally do it for you, but Alas I am in NYC. I have sung at many Catholic weddings and I have more of a musical Theater/ contemporary sounding voice. Boston also has a huge theater community and you might try asking around at some of the colleges, Boston Conservatory, Boston school of music. I did have an issue at one wedding where the Parish Cantor musician refused to play piano for any outside singers. I ended up having to find a pianist to play for me.
Good luck! You’ll find someone in your area that’s perfect 🙂

@littlebear2171: I grew up in Holden (small world!) and went to St. Mary’s Church there — they have some incredible cantors that aren’t as opera-like as they can be. Maybe stop by mass sometime and listen in to see if anyone there suits you?
