It’s not a substitution per se, but I decided if I couldn’t have alcohol or prepared salads or cold deli meat, I’m not giving up my diet coke. My doctor says I can have up to 2 cans a day, and I was trying really hard for awhile to just have one can every other day. I gave up though last month and now I probably have at least a little every day.

I miss drinking a little, but not nearly as much as I thought it would. Most of my favorite drinks don’t even sound good anymore.

I liked to get juice or a juicy icy smoothie instead of coffee

Watch out.  That coconut water that all the celebrities are drinking can have a lot of “natural” sugar in it.  Yes it’s liquid, but like all sugar it can leave you falling off of a high.

Oh, and none of the items that you have listed are “forbidden”.  Some doctors ok it (and some are much more conservative) all in moderation.

My friends and I are going out next week for sushi and I plan to just have the veggie rolls like avocado roll etc.. My OB told me to avoid certain types of of tuna as well as raw/semi-cooked fish. Plus I never ate shelled sea food even when I wasnt pregnant so thats not too hard for me to avoid.

I never drank coffee/soda or alcohol so no change there but I did used to eat a lot of high sodium fast food, I’ve been trying to cut back on that but its hard!

@abbyful: I didn’t realize it was trendy either. We went kayking with a couple once who brought a box with them, so I tried it.  I thought it was disgusting for a while, but now I really enjoy it as a change from water (which I drink a ton of). I only drink a small amount at time, so I don’t really worry about the sugar.

And I just found out I was pregnant, but while TTC I really only switched to decaf coffee and tea. I still drank beer and wine until the TWW and I don’t ever eat shushi. But now that I shouldn’t eat it, I want Subway all the time. I keep wondering if I let them toast it, is it safe then?

@abbyful:How does coconut water taste? I’m too scared to try it!

I cut out all caffeine, eating more greens, more fruit, and I have a constant strange craving for egg whites. I still will occasionally indulge in my favorites which are chik-fil-a and pizza.

I’ll eat snowcrab rolls or california rolls instead of philly rolls or something else raw when we go eat sushi.  And I’ll have a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino (which has no coffee) instead of a Java Chip one when I go to Starbucks.

I’m not pregnant, but I’ve been subbing sparkling water with lemon or lime for soda. I still get that cold refreshing fizziness, without any of the sugar or weird diet chemicals.
