I’m wondering if one of the wives is leaving. They seem to be pretty up in the air about the whole thing… Or maybe the new one is preggers already?

I think my only interest in this is to see what affect the TV show has had on their lives, I think it’s a really strange situation but I am a reality TV junkie and can’t help but watch! I know they were just trying to open peoples eyes, but it’s hard to feel too bad for things being tumultuous, their lifestyle is illegal…:-/

Maybe the husband is getting in legal trouble. I’m not really sure why I’m supposed to feel bad for them.

Husband and I watched this show for the first time tonight… it seems like one huge contradiction. We all love each other and are okay with this lifestyle, but we’re all jealous of each other. Basically husband and I think it’s fairly sick to hear this man called ‘honorable and respectable’, and we feel bad for the children. While the shows interesting, it also bothers me. I know I’m probably opening a can of worms *don’t bash this religion/lifestyle etc* but this is something I can’t bend on. Polygomy basically focuses on the part in the Bible where God says to procreate, and takes advantage of it, ignoring everything about ‘one man and one woman’.

There were many major people in the Bible who had multiple wives, and God didn’t actually speak against it. It isn’t until you get to people like Paul that there is an emphasis on a one man – one woman marriage.

Don’t get me wrong, I am christian, and monogamous, but polygamy is not directly prohibited in the Bible.

@almostlaroche:

There are a lot of things which happened in the Bible which I’m sure wouldn’t be condoned by the Church today. Getting your father drunk and sleeping with him? Anyone?

I think that the Church bases most of its teachings on the New Testament, especially what was laid down by Paul, and thus, would frown upon polgamy. This is what I believe @SnowPeony: meant.

@almostlaroche: Like Tickles says, I am basing this off of the New Testament. Very few churches follow the Old Testament (there are some pretty terrible things in there). I was just reading Matthew yesterday, and remember Jesus telling how marriage is (don’t quote me here) when a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife, and that divorce is adultery because what God has joined together, man may not seperate. It also mentioned how one man and one woman become one being.

I also know that polygomy is illegal, and wonder how they are getting away with having a national television show?

FH is LDS and told me once that Mormons practiced polygamy in the past because there was a huge lack of men and they wanted all women to have a chance to be a wife and a mother, as well as be able to obtain certain things in heaven (God wants you to have a family). They completely banned it when it was no longer necessary except for Fundamentalists who still practice it.

I apologize if this isn’t right LDS bees, FH isn’t always great at explaining these things.

Those poor, poor children. And women!

Lol not gonna disagree that there was some messed up stuff in the Old Testament. And I didn’t realize Jesus had actually said that, I had been under the impression that it was only Paul. (Not that I don’t consider what Paul said important, it just sounds more legit coming from Jesus.) Reading more closely might be a good plan for me.

I thought last night’s episode was very anti-climactic. I was expecting some big bombshell.

And have you seen pictures of wife 2 lately? The blonde how didn’t just have a baby. Her face looks all funky. I wonder if she had a face lift.

Based on the snippets- it looks like they will be moving. Seems odd that polygamists have to move from Utah- to practise.  So far Im good with them, no welfare, kids are getting education, and everyone seems to pull their own weight.

Not sure this lifestyle is any more unusual than the Duggars.
