I’ll always prefer buffet.
I’ll always prefer buffet.
As a guest, I would prefer a buffet style dinner. However, I would be happy with a plated dinner too. After all, it is an honor that the bride and groom are sharing their special day with me. And I am sharing in their joy by respecting their choices.
I don’t think an event is less “classy” because of the style of dinner offered. However, it is a matter of personal preference – what is YOUR vision for your wedding?
I’m an idiot and spill things, so I’m not a fan of buffet. If someone puts the food in front of me and I don’t have to move it, that’s one thing that I don’t have to worry about. Plus, if you have some elderly folks at the wedding, it’s hard for them to sometimes go and get their food. I’m a sit-down fan, but it all depends on what YOU like! 🙂
I’m not a fan of buffet – I don’t like walking around to get my food and juggling plates.
We are having a plated dinner, but that’s only because there are only 25 guests total and a buffet just seemed like overkill.
I would say for a larger group a buffet is better. If I could make one suggestion, it might be to have two stations setup so that, as a PP said, guests don’t feel like they are the last to get food. Also, make sure that the catering people are watching to make sure everything is full on the table and that when something is all gone, the replace it ASAP. That is my one peeve about buffet tables!
I’m a fan a buffets. It gives you and your guests more options. It is an especially good option for our wedding becasue we have several familiy/freinds with differing dietary restrictions. And, I think you can make it more “classy”. For example, we’re planning on having nice looking menu cards for the buffet at each place setting.
I prefer buffet, mainly for more choices, and you are able to get a variety. I am a huge fan of buffets! We did buffet style, and had a make your own stir fry station, which was a huge hit
I also like buffet, you can get more of what you want, and you get more options. We were set on buffet but it turned out the venue we picked it was MORE expensive to do. They said b/c they have ot provide more food than in a sit-down dinner.
I prefer sit-down for all the reasons listed in this thread. 🙂 I’m OCD too, and people laugh at me when they see me grab ladles with a napkin. -_-
Fiance prefers Buffet
I prefer Sit Down
But I do enjoy the fact that Buffet offers more variety/selection for guests.
If you only get what you requested your S.O.L and that just sucks!
My reasoning for hating Buffet is that I hate seeing people fuss around in a long line.
I think sit down is a little more for classy formal weddings. the face to face time you get while eating is very nice too. 🙂
Wow! Thanks for all the responses everyone! Anyways, if we went with the buffet style, we would have a carving station with an attendant if we go with Prime Rib as one of the buffet options. There would still be attendants to make sure food is there etc. We are only expecting 100 guests, half older people and half our age. I know the older guests may not want to wait in line, but we would let them get their food first. Also, they love eating a lot so a buffet might be good. On the otherhand, they might not like it either…So I still have no idea what I want, but I guess I have to wait until we do the tastings to see what I think is better. My wedding is not a specific style…I like the idea of a formal sit down because I dont want people running around with all this activity are going on etc, And i’m worried about the food quality and it being messy. My Fiance likes the buffet style due to more salads, sides and entree options. Also, I like that picky eaters will get to choose more veggies or more meat if they wish and be completely full. I dont know how the quality will be for one style vs. the other.
I will make the decision when we do our tasting…which wont be till 2 months before the wedding! I’ll keep you updated on what we decide. Thanks again!
I prefer buffet because of the better variety.
But I may just be prejudiced because every single sit-down wedding dinner I’ve ever had has consisted of the typical steak or chicken breast with some kind of congealed sauce/mashed potatoes or rice pilaf/steamed veggies. Boring! And it’s never very good.
… Seriously, I read some of the bees’ menus and wonder why I don’t get invited to weddings like that. Carnival food? Sliders and mac ‘n cheese? Sign me up!
I love sit down dinners, I am not a fan of buffets.
I have issues with people touching my food, I know that the caterers touch it but they are trained. And because of health standards they have to be clean.
I have self conscious issues with food and I hate walking from the buffet to my table. If I get a lot of food I think people are thinking “Whoa look how much she is eating” or if I get a little bit I am worried that people are thinking “Doesn’t she eat.” and I am worried about wasting money.
Also, I am lactose intolerant and I prefer a sit down.
Sitdown because I hate standing in line for food.
