So I just ordered my dress and i LOVEEEEEEE it… the only thing that worries me is that I might not be able to sit down in the dress :/. It is a mermaid style, and in the sample gown I was able to sit, but it took some help (and it was one size larger than what i ordered). Here it is:

(i am not wearing it with the one shoulder strap)
Anywho… you can see how it would be hard to sit. But I just ignored that because I loved the dress so much.
Where you not able to sit in your dress? Did it bother you the whole night?
Im starting to worry!!! :/

I had a fit and flare gown and it was TIGHT. The dress will loosen up some after you’ve had it on for awhile. I was able to sit for dinner but it wasn’t very comfortable. As the night went on and we danced, it definitely became easier and I was able to sit w/out difficulty when chatting with guests. The drive to the hotel afterwards wasn’t a problem at all. My bigger problem was going to the bathroom. I had to have a friend hold my dress for me and I could barely wiggle it up around my hips to sit to pee. I had to hover over the toilet.

@milesbella: I remember not being able to wriggle it up as much as I would’ve like to go to the toilet, but it was enough lol.

I sort of had to topple back into my seat but I could manage it haha. It didn’t really bother me though.
I have a huge bladder so I cant speak to peeing in it.

That dress does look difficult to sit in. But you’ll make it work. Thats what we do for these beautiful dresses! I have a mermaid style dress too and I am definitely concerned about peeing though!

I was able to sit, but I’ll likely be getting it taken in a little… I’m a bit worried about that, but I’ll just ask the seamstress to let me sit once she has the pins in (or whatever she thinks will work best to test that out).
ETA: WOW, lovely dress!

Don’t worry too much! Everyone will be going out of their way to make things work for you, anyway! I had a trumpet dress too, but it was fitted through the hip, not through the knee like yours. I found it was easiest to flop down into a chair rather than sit, and leaning was the absolutely easiest. I had stools at our sweetheart table 🙂
Also, hike the dress a tiny bit before you sit down, it helps so much!

The two words I found worked the best for my mermaid: hoist and sit. If I hoisted the tight hip-part UP around my smaller waist, I could sit more comfy. And it loosened a lot as the night went on! 🙂

@shanly725:
My wedding gown is mermaid too, but I can sit properly, I custom made it at weddingdressen.com, and the dressmakers there asked me to leave some give when take the measurements. see my wedding dress, which is similar to yours: http://www.weddingdressen.com/mermaid-strapless-sweep-train-taffeta-vintage-wedding-dress-p-198.html

Because I have a really small bladder and I was poured into my dress, I switched to my reception dress.
