Hello November friends! It’s six months to go today (well technically it’s tomorrow for me)! How are we feeling? What’s left to do? In my mind I always envisioned the six month mark as that downhill slide where things start to go very quickly. It’s also my absolute busiest time of the year at work for the next six months so I’m sure they’re going to fly!
How are my fellow Novembrides doing? Any tips from the pros on what to look out for/do?

I’ve been so busy with school that wedding planning has been pushed to the back burner. 🙁 But next up on my things to do are invitations and finish updating the website.

I feel like there is a ton of stuff that I hadn’t worried about yet because the wedding was so far off. Suddenly we are six months away and we still don’t have a caterer, DJ, florist… I’m freaking out! I had a dream last night that it was November 8th (wedding is the 9th) and we still hadn’t done any of this stuff yet. It was very stressful. I’m sure there are plenty more of those dreams in the future.

I’m exactly 6 months away today! My to dos for this week are ordering save the date postcards, finalizing out wedding website address, and bugging Fiance for his guest addresses. I think we’re in good shape.

So far we’ve:
- Paid for the venue
- Paid half for the photographer
- Paid half on my dress (will arrive in June)
- Paid for the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses (will also arrive in June)
- Will be ordering groom’s tux this weekend.
- Stepmother’s sister is playing our ceremony music
Still to do:
- DIY flowers
- Most likely using iPod for reception music
- 75% positive we’ve found the right bakery for our cake.
- Sending our invites in August.
What’s really on the top of my to-do list is to completely figure out what we’re doing for food. We plan to have finger foods, fruit, etc since our reception is in the afternoon, but not sure if we can actually get that all put together or if I need a caterer, and if it’s a caterer then it’s hard to find a good one that also isn’t completely overpriced around here.
I know I’m missing some things, but I just can’t think of them at the moment..

@snd485: date twins! I just know the next six months are going to fly…

@erinbacher: nice work! I have a couple odds and ends to do as well.
The weird thing that I keep getting stuck on is transportation. It sounds really stupid (because it is) but I don’t know if I should upgrade to the bigger limo or not? A regular limo seats 8-10 and we’ve got 10 in the bridal party. We only need to be in there for like 20 minutes. To upgrade (including tax and tip) to a bigger one that seats 14-16 is another $200. That’s peanuts compared to the total cost (which I won’t go into because I don’t want to be nauseous this evening) and could result in added comfort for my wedding party, but I’m worried I’m falling into that “bridal trap” where you just pay for crap “just in case”. So I keep stalling on that one.. 🙁

@sanjessica: I’m personally not doing a limo. I only have two bridesmaids and we’ll be getting ready at the venue, so we’re just going to meet up and take one car over there. (I love to save money anyways, heh) I love limos, but I just don’t think we need it on our particular day.

School has kept me busy, this summer is when I’m doing EVERYTHING.
We’ve got a ceremony and reception location but we don’t have our food picked out yet. We’re taking our engagement photos on Sunday so we’ll have the save the dates out by the end of May and I’ll hopefully be getting my dress by June/July. I’m so glad that I’m not the only one behind. I keep seeing all these posts for months that are after November where they have so much stuff done and it makes me feel bad.
@chouette: Nah don’t feel bad. Everywhere and everyone is different. I got a lot of big stuff done early since I was on contract and worried I’d be out of a job (and paycheck) in the summer. I’m now entering into my busiest time of year so I’m really glad I’ve done all the big stuff over the winter/spring when work was lighter.
As long as you marry the right guy on the big day it’s a success 🙂

So far we have the venue, our photographer, and my dress. We have some reception items and my veil materials as well. We have my wedding band (heirloom piece). We have our cake ordered.
I’ve also been trying to juggle wedding planning with a full-time job and part-time grad school; I graduate this month and I’ll be so relieved when it’s over with!
We are so, so stuck on getting a caterer. Our venue has some fairly inflexible policies, and the caterer we’d like to go with has an ineffectual coordinator. It’s been really stressful trying to get things nailed down. If this caterer isn’t going to be workable then we’re going to have to find someone else, and we’ve been really unimpressed with the standard wedding caterers we’ve looked at.
We’re going to try to get our DJ and florist locked in this month. The bridesmaids dresses come in next month, and I’ll probably start my alterations next month so they are finished in time for bridal portraits in August (have to start losing some weight in there somewhere). Fiance should probably pick out his outfit in June as well, and it would be nice to get the ceremony musician locked down and the invites ordered too.

My Fh “celebrated” 6 months to go by hitting a concrete support column in the local grocery store parking garage. I figure it’s $500+ worth of damage. Thankfully it’s all cosmetic and can wait but now we’re driving around in a busted up car.
Then on top of that, I am having a lot of discomfort from my LEEP surgery from last week. I wouldn’t wish one on my worst enemy. I feel like everything is going to fall out even though I know it’s physically impossible. Plus, one of FH’s friends is coming to visit for the weekend and I am less than enthused because I want to spend the weekend on the couch resting and healing.
As a result it’s hard to get back on track planning at the moment, so I am taking a week (or two) off from wedding planning.

@beachbride1216: lolll I shouldn’t laugh but the way you positioned it was pretty funny. Sorry your celebration was a bust (ba dum ching!). Good thinking on taking some time off.
Well I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels knee deep in nonsense, on top of being neck deep in work! We did end up deciding to go with the bigger limo.. at this point I really don’t care, I just want it done!

Oh, no! @beachbride1216: I’m glad it was only cosmetic but that’s still gotta suck royally!
According to the big to-do lists out there we’re actually doing really well, planning-wise, but I have the fear sitting just outside of my peripheral vision that I’m forgetting something really big and going to end up scrambling! Our first planning meeting with the venue/DoC is next week, maybe that will help me put things in place 🙂

I keep getting panic attacks about everything. I feel like we’re in good shape, I suppose. So far we have:
Photographer – deposit paid
Florist booked – deposit still to be paid though
DJ – deposit paid
2/3 bridesmaid dresses paid for
invitations decided on
My dress bought and paid for
shoes, veil bought
Stuff to do that’s stressing me out:
One Bridesmaid or Best Man needs to order her dress (Soon! Store said by end of May!)
A few DIY projects
Tuxes & suites
Decisions on flowers & cake
Honeymoon details (and booking)
Actually, writing out that list helped a lot. I see I do have a lot done and maybe I shouldnt’ be stressing so much.
When did or will you guys start asking for guest addresses? Is this something we should be doing soon?
