DI’d anyone else in this size range not think of themselves as full-figured?

chellybean:  It’s davids bridal… I’m actually selling it right now with the slip and veil included. We were planning a church wedding where it would be more appropriate, but decided to instead throw caution into the wind and go get married in the mountains (about 1/4mi hike) so it’s no longer …appropriate. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is mine! I’m a street size 14/16 I think my dress was a 16 or 18, but it’s too big and being taken in right now (this is not my veil):

Street size 14, dress size 16w. It’s currently being taken in at the hips and waist… I can’t wait to try it on after alterations!

I’m between a 12 and an 18 depending on what it is I am trying to wear, and the last time I went to Davids to get a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress, they put me in an 18.  So when I went wedding dress shopping two Saturdays back, I told them I must be an 18 (since the scale ain’t movin’ O_o), and tha’t what the consultant pulled.  My main concern was fitting it into a suitcase and then being able to “fluff” it back out, so I tried a little of everything (I was trying to look in a side mirror, and look pretty derpy in a lot of these):

The last one above was my first pick before getting the to DB.  After a couple of dresses, she said it looked like I was actaully a 16 (yay for a happy surprise) and after trying this dress in an 18, and then the 16 which fit just fine, I picked this one for our destination beach wedding:

Some ladies seem sad they were classified as “full figured/plus sized” upon dress shopping.  Please don’t – it’s just a number.  I went in telling myself not to worry about the size number, because:

A) formal wear does not fit like day wear, and they seem to purposfully make one size bigger or the other smaller.  I was happy to be a 16 instead of an 18, anyway, because really, who wouldn’t be?  I called ahead and asked if they had sample dresses in my size range, and they said yes, so at least I knew there’d be soemthing to try on, even if it didn’t fit in the back.

B) I am the size I am, and I am working on being healthier, but at 38, working full time and freelancing part time, losing weight is kinda hard.  Mostly I want to lose the double chin and arms – it’s not how I picture myself.

I felt pretty in the last dress, feminine, and like I looked like a bride (and it should smoosh into a bag okay! ๐Ÿ™‚ ).
