Okay ladies….I am really back and forth here, seamstress said she could fix my dress being too small, and then backed out and said it wouldn’t look right and she just couldnt do the work and charge me the amount and feel good about it.
SO, I freaked and in a total panic ordered this inexpensive online exclusive dress from davids bridal. I don’t know what I was thinking except that I know I can return this one.
I’m a big girl, size 18 or 20, and I ordered a mermaid style dress. I loved the fit and flare on me, so I thought I would give it a try, but I do have a bit of a tummy so I am thinking I will just HATE it. I’ve got a week or two to wait now and I am just a wreck! lol
someone please show me some pictures of themselves in mermaid dresses to maybe ease my mind? Or just make it worse lol!

I love that dress, I certainly think it looks amazing on you <3
The dress I ordered is much different, but this does give me some hope 🙂

I think it really depends on your proportions. I’m a size 10 but a mermaid looks terrible on me because I have huge thighs! As long as you’ve got good curves and a defined waist, a mermaid style can look good at any size!

I’m an 18 (squeezed into a 16 gown) for our wedding day. I love mermaid gowns!

This is a pic of me in mine which hasn.t been fittes yet. It is too big at the top but wil give you some idea. I am a bit self conscious about my size but I love this dress. Hoping it will look even better when it is fitted.

Thanks so much ladies 🙂
@Mrs. Jaguar : I saw your wedding recap on the blog 😛 You looked stunning in that dress!
@traceywhite1962: Thank you for posting 🙂 I also saw your post about this topic and read through it. Your dress is probably style wise the closest to the one I ordered. I got mine too big because I didn’t want to go through the horrors of another dress being too small. I think when your’s is altered it will be beautiful on you!! Where the bodice cuts you off is a good place I think.
The one I ordered is so drastically mermaid, the top and bottom could almost be two different dresses! But it doesn’t look bad. Hopefully it will get here soon and I can try it on and see how it feels. I do have a nicely defined waist line, but it’s the love handles and the tummy I’m worried about. I mean, I’ve got some awesome shape wear that I was planning on wearing under my other dress that really sucks me in, so that could help with this one. Who knows! Just playing the waiting game now! I’m so nervous because there are good reviews and bad reviews. Honestly it’s going to be difficult for me to go from $1,000 dress to a on sale for like, $200 dress. because I know there will be a difference in the quality. But as long as it doesn’t look horribly cheap and it fits well, I’m rolling with it.

@RAWR.its.BREN: I have a big tummy too. It’s the bain of my life!!! I am so conscious of it and think i look huge in anything I wear. I can’t wait to see a pic of you in your new dress. I reckon it will be great xxx

Wow you ladies look great in those dresses!
For pulling it off, I really think it depends on where you carry your weight. I have a tummy so I can’t pull it off.
Do you have a picture of the mermaid dress? What’s wrong with your other dress, it’s so pretty!

Yeah my other dress is so nice…I miss the idea of wearing it. But it is too small and she refuses to work on it because she said it would look bad and she couldn’t justify charging me the money to do the work. I have it for sale on Ebay, hoping it sells!
I really do have a tummy, but there’s no saying how the dress will fit until I get it. I just hope I can make it work, I don’t want to go through with returning it and trying to find another one in this short amount of time I have!

I’m a size 12-13 and I tried one on, pretty sure it was a mermaid dress and I couldn’t stand it, I don’t have the smallest butt and it did make that part curvy but the waste I hated.

Girl look! If I had some size 16-18 hips I’d pack all of this ass into a mermaid/trumpet style dress. I LOVE seeing women with real hips in dresses that show their hips!

I don’t have a photo to share, sadly. But I am very much considering a mermaid dress, and am size 16 street/18ish dress. I have a little bit of a tummy but mostly I have big hips and am busty.
