I’d recommend going to a store and trying some on.  I thought I wanted a princess cut solitaire, but when I started putting them on my fingers, I changed my mind!

You can always go to a jeweler on your own and being that most jewelers stock a size 7 you can try it right there and see how it looks. If they dont have 7’s and its a smaller size you can try it on your pinky. Thats what I had to do with the 7’s because im a 9. I finally found one I like and he ordered it a few weeks ago…any day now!!!

My suggestion is to go to some jewlery shops either alone or with him and try some rings on.  I wanted a low profile too (size 6 finger) and I found when looking online that it was extremely difficult for me to see how much the rings would stick out from my hand just by looking at a picture.  I needed to try them on first, but once I did, choosing from pictures with measurements listed became easier.  By low profile I’m assuming you mean that you want a ring that doesn’t stick out too far away from your finger?

ETA:  PP is correct about size 7 being what most places keep in stock.  If you’re a size 7 you should have no trouble at all trying on any ring you want to. πŸ™‚  That also means when he does pick out a ring to buy he won’t have to spend extra time and/or money waiting for it to be re-sized! πŸ™‚  And congratz on your upcoming engagement! xD

My ring is sized to a 7 1/4, and my finger is 6 3/4, so 7 is right in the middle πŸ˜‰ Here’s my cushion cut. It’s a 1.11 center, .25 on the band, G color, VS2, excellent cut. The setting is 2mm microprong setting, exactly like the Tiffany Novo.

ETA-Here’s a profile view too

I’m a size 8, but I was trying on a tiny wedding band so these rings are on my pinky which I would guess would be around 6-7 maybe…

Until you see a “million” rings, you will not know what you like on yourself. Sometimes what you think you want and what looks great on your hand are very different. I designed my own ring and thought I would be happy with it. When I got to see something similar on my hand, it didn’t work at all for me. I tried many designs and realized that I actually wanted the opposite of what I started with.
