Bailey fluxuates between 40-45lbs – we think she’s a shepherd/chow mix. Most people judge her weight to be 35lbs-ish. Even the vet was surprised the first time she got on the scale. She comes up to about my knees, height-wise. I included a picture of her next to the couch for reference.

Well here is a small (but still larger than your previous dogs) one to start.  He is Toby, our 20 lb Cockapoo.  Three year old child included for reference. 🙂

This is actually the dog my parents got from Dallas animal services. She’s a border collie mix of some kind, about 20lbs. I call her the 4-legged tongue.

I picked this pic because you can tell how big our small dog is next to a person (if I post just pics of the dogs it’s easy to think she’s teeeeny tiny but only because the great danes are super big)

Anyway, this is Rosie on the left.  She is a mutt, not sure what mix she is.  She is between 30 and 32 pounds.  Duke, the big guy on the right of the picture, is about 135 pounds- so obviously over your limit 😛

I’d say if you’re worried about a dog getting too big, adopt an adult so you know what they are fully grown.

Edit- another pic of Rosie:

@DaneLady:  Oh wow, Rosie’s face has a lot of the same characteristics of Bailey’s and they have the same tail, too. I bet they have a similar mix in them!

I hope this helps.. since you said your Fiance grew up with JR’s… in this pick my JR is about 17-18ish lbs (much better than the 13 pounds when I got her underweight at the pound Cry) Below her is my FI’s dog who is between 40-45lbs.

Here she is all by herself

I always wanted a small dog but we fell in love with a pit mix at an adoption event. He is about 55-60 lbs:

@misspeanut:  Awww, they do match a little bit!  We call her a possible AussieGoldenBorderBeagleMutt.  Or Rosie-Posey-Josie.

My 55 lb Brutus (he really isn’t that big, I would call him medium size.)  As far as we can tell he is a border collie, lab, pittie, and greyhound mix (i.e. rescue mutt.)  He is the perfect size for us.  Big enough to be rough and tumble but just small enough to control.  Much easier to housetrain than my 15 lb pomeranian.  Loved my old Boxer too and she was about 50 lb.

And you can see he still thinks he’s a lapdog.

We have 2 Siberian Huskies but only our little girl fits into your weight limitations.

On the left, Dirty Delete (our little girl) is 4.5 years old and weighs between 43 and 46lbs. She’s a bit heavier than typical huskies because her little body is packed with muscle. We hike and run several times each week. Kopi, our 6.5 year old boy (on the right) is 65lbs. For reference, the Hubs is 6′ tall exactly.
