Poor guy! Fiance and I and his best man just went to go try on some tuxes the other day, to get an idea of what kind of style we were looking for, and while nothing like ‘sizes unrealistic’ happened… the ever-so-polite consultant said to me ‘the groom has huge shoulders and is scrawny everywhere else, so nothing he tries on right now is going to fit.’ (That is hardly true. He works a physical job and has muscled arms, yes. His upper half is more muscled than his legs — but aren’t most men?)

Honestly, I was pretty put off and we won’t be buying from there. Not that it’s a terrible thing to say, but it’s not the most polite… I felt bad because the reason Fiance agreed to go was because his best man and he were reminiscing about getting fitted for grad tuxes (six long years ago…) and remembering how well they’d been treated! (Best man didn’t even get to try on a whole tux, btw. She just threw a certain jacket at him… no dress shirt underneath it, nothing.) Sigh. Looks like we’ll be ordering from Men’s Wearhouse, online. No more trying on tuxes.

That’s horrible! If that happened to a girl, I couldn’t imagine how she’d react! At least it fit him well, though. And a 30″ waist? Wow, I can imagine all the weight is muscle.

My fiance is really small. Like 5’4 with a 28 inch waist and 29 inch inseam. I always joke with him that when the time comes to get measured they are going to tell him that they have to order him a boy’s suit. What if it actually happens though? I would feel so bad…it would still be kind of funny though.

@melitabonita:  If I remember correctly, tux pants go down to like 27inch. And they hem the length of the pants to whatever length you need them. (this is also why the 30/36 pant  for @GreenEyedMoon’s Darling Husband worked out). So no worries, your Fiance should be fine!

(I used to work at a tux/bridal shop)

@GreenEyedMoon:  I have to admit, we never saw someone that looked like you described.

At our shop, we carried all of the tuxes in the back of the store, not like other stores that get their tuxes shipped to them from a warehouse. Anyhow, that meant if there were weird fits, or the computer was wrong, we could just go in the back and change the jacket out, etc. So if the computer did like our measurements, we could just fib, put a note in the comments and we would be fine. *sorry if that was a thread jack
