So my fingers have shrunk and my ring’s too big, but I don’t want to resize it as my ring size fluctuates quite a bit, plus my rings are soldered. I asked a local jeweler today about sizing beads and they said $150-200! That sounds crazy high to me, so they put a ring guard in instead. My fingers are so irritated from it the ring’s unbearable, plus it scratched the hell out of my rings. I’m going to go to another jeweler, but I was wondering what a reasonable cost is for sizing beads – my rings are platinum, which apparently costs more, but I’d like to know what you guys have paid so I know a reasonable price.

I need them too! Shane co quoted me $120 which I think it waaay too high so I’m not doing it :/ I think the cheapest it will run is like $80 which is still too much to me for 2 tiny little balls of gold.

The price of precious metals has gone up a lot. You have to take into consideration also that you aren’t just paying for the cost of the platinum, but also for the jeweller’s labor. And, they have to make some sort of profit otherwise they could not stay in business. I’d say $150 for sizing beads makes sense.
I have worked in jewellery and a regular sizing for platinum can run like $90 just for that. So it makes sense for the sizing beads to be more. It’s sucks but it’s probably a fair quote.

@GeekChic: Thanks, that’s helpful to know. It cost me about $45 to have my rings soldered, so I assumed that beads would be in a similar price range. I’m curious if they could use a cheaper metal like silver to do it, or if the beads HAVE to be gold or platinum.

This won’t be helpful, but I had mine added for free from the Jeweler my Fiance bought the ring, it’s not a chain place though so maybe that’s why they didn’t charge…Didn’t realize that it could have potential cost money, mine was sized twice for free as well…
