I don’t think they really promote weight loss. Instead they help tone the muscle you already have. However, if you have a layer of fat over your thighs the Shape-Ups won’t really do you much good because whatever muscle tone you gain will be covered by the fat already there (I have thick thighs even though I am slender and no matter how muscular my thighs get they never look slender because I gain all my weight in my thighs).

I don’t think they are worth the money :/

I don’t have any experience with the skechers but I do have the Reebok easy tone and I love them.  I can’t say that I have lost any lbs from using them but I definitely think that they help tone, especially in dreaded butt-meets-thigh region.

@Statutory Grape: Since you are a student does you campus have a health center? I know you said diet and exercise aren’t working but that is likely because you aren’t dieting/exercising correctly. A doctor/nutritionist on campus could put you on the right track for what to eat and what exercises to do.

For instance, running doesn’t do me any good when I am trying to lose weight. I trained for a 5K/10K/Half Marathon and can’t say I lost any weight doing so. However, exercising using Wii Active really toned me up and helped me drop the pounds.

I can’t say that mine have done anything for ab toning, I have been using Insanity for that (amazing by the way).  I bought mine at Christmas and paid around 90 dollars I think.  They are expensive but if you already do have muscle and are just looking to tone they do work.  If you are looking at them for weight loss, then I didn’t see any difference.

I can’t say anything about the shoes, but I have a little tip that has really worked for me.  Whenever you are walking anywhere, tighten your abs.  A trainer friend of mine told me this and it has really been good for me.

@tksjewelry: you mean like when you are trying to suck it in so no one notices your tummy pooch 😉 I seriously have pretty good abs (underneath my layer of blubber) because I always walk around with my stomach sucked in!

@Statutory Grape: I bought insanity on ebay, brand new, never opened, for $79.99 including shipping.  It was the best decision ever.  I have asthma as well and it is tough, I use my emergency inhaler as well as my everyday one and it is do-able but I am definitely out of breath.

I didn’t buy these sneakers, but I did buy the Reebok runtones. The first time I walked/jogged in them, I could totally feel the burn in my thighs, legs, and butt. But after a while, your body gets use to them…so I don’t feel the burn anymore…maybe I overused them? LOL…I wanted to get them since I’ve heard some good reviews about them…so my answer would be YES, in getting sneakers that help you tone while your walking/running.
