Has anybody done this? I’m afraid I will have my period on my wedding day. I’m on birth control and wondering how safe it would be to skip the last week of sugar pills and go straight into the next pack? Someone told me their doc said it was ok as long as you don’t do it often….

@RubyStar: Its fine. Ive done it plenty of times (remember i am not a dr, just someone on the pill for 6+ years). My dr said it was fine. It could screw up your next period- meaning it could come earlier than expected or youll spot between now and your next period – but nothing major.
All seasonique is reg birth control with out the placebo pills.

Yes it’s fine to do it but like your doctor said not too often. I needed to switch my cycle as well because I would have had my period the weekend of my wedding. So what I did instead of taking too packs in a row without a period is that I actually didn’t take the last week of active pills so that I would have my period 1 week sooner. I then started my next pack as usual. Fiance and I made sure we used condoms that entire cycle just in case. Worked great for me!

Definitely talk to your doctor about doing it before you make your final decision. That being said, I did it a few times on purpose and once accidentally (grad school, no sleep, lost all sense of the calendar), and it’s fine. As long as you’re okay with your cycle being moved, you should be okay.

Thanks for the responses! I will definitely mention it to my doctor at my next visit. Seems like it won’t be a problem..

Give your doctor (or their nurse) a quick call to be sure, but I’ve done the same thing before a camping trip. I wanted to do it before the wedding day too, but I forgot to order my next month of pills in time (oops! but aunt flo left the day before, so it all worked out)

I’d say it depends. Are you on mono or triphasic birth control? I wouldnt do it as I’m on triphasic. But ask your doctor to be sure

I had the same delimma so I skipped my sugar pills and started a new pack…which meant no period for me on my wedding day or my honeymoon! As always check with your doctor which you have so I think you’re good to go!

Because I have intense periods, my doctor actually has me take 3 months back to back, with no placebos until the third pack. I’ve been doing this for going on two years now – not much spotting (unless I’m stupid and forget to take one), but I know that can be an issue for some people. She also told me if there was any reason I needed to switch up the months (so take two or four packs in a row) for a holiday/wedding/some other reason to avoid the time of the month, that was fine, as long as I didn’t do it often. She is one of the best in the state, so I’m comfortable with her advice.

@RubyStar: it’s definitely “safe” (my OB recommended me to do this) to skip the last week, but it will mess up your period. Well, it messed up mine. I spot for like 12 days when I skip the last week’s pills. Didn’t work out well for me on wedding night either

You cannot do this with a Triphasic birth control as there are different amounts of hormone each week.
Monophasic birth controls will allow you to skip periods.
ETA: I am on monophasic. When I skip, I lightly spot for one day, and do not spot the rest of the time.

i do this frequently w/the nuvaring & used to do it with the pill. i usually do it for up to 3 months and then i start having spotting, but everyone’s different so just be aware that you may have spotting if you try it.
