I have heard some ppl say on here that they are skipping sugar pills weeks to not be on their period during their wedding, etc. i literally planned my wedding around my period lol
but, DH and i are going on a vacation soon and i am due to start my period on wednesday and end on monday. guess what? we leave for vacation wednesday and get back on monday! ugh! even worse…we are staying in a cabin with a bunch of friends. this equals no privacy and probably no trash can in the bathroom FAIL!
so, thiking of skipping sugar pill week and just starting up a new pack. thoughts? expereinces? is this safe? will this even work? will i become emotional and freak out? will it make me gain weight? UGH!

I do it all the time! Go ahead and try – at worst, you’ll get some spotting because you’re body will be like wtf?
I do it for usually 2 months at a time, then I’ll stop taking my pills and do a placebo week because my body will start spotting if I don’t. But it’s great! I havent had a period on a weekend in years! (I always stop them on Saturday and get my period on Monday by 6 am and over by Friday!)

I’ve done it. No harm no foul, my body is perfectly okay and there’s no harm in skipping your period, it isn’t necessary.

I’ve done it before, but doing that has always made my face break out.

Totally safe, will work, shouldn’t have any side effects that you wouldn’t already have from regular use of the pill.

I’ve done it; and it’s staved off my period for a little while (maybe 2 weeks at most) and then made me bleed like crazy. It didn’t really work for me.

@bestbuddies: Yes it’s safe. There’s no medical reason to have a period while on the pill. It’s not even a real period… it’s a “withdrawal bleed” (sexy, I know).
I take 2 packs back to back. If I do 3 straight, I generally get spotting. I always plan my time of month around vacations!
I don’t even do sugar pills.. I just ask for the 21 packs and then just finish pack Sat night, and start new pack the next Sunday (if I am taking a break between packs).

I don’t use pills, but I did have the Nuva Ring and would do this by inserting a fresh one instead of having an off week. Worked out fine for me!

Just to add.. make sure your pills are all the same hormones throughout (like not a Tri-cyclen) or else it probably won’t work.

@bestbuddies: I set my wedding date around my period too 🙂
If you are on a triphasic pill, take the pills backwards to try and minimize spotting. If you just jump into a new pack, the hormone shift could cause spotting. I accidentally stacked (skipped placebo week) my pills once and the spotting was horrible.

I only get a few a year now and love it! It takes a while to build up to that though, you may get some spotting after a few days.

Make sure your pill is monophasic (ie, same hormone level throughout the pack).
I skip the sugar pills every month and have not had a period in years. I do this because I’m anemic due to a genetic disorde. My OB has told me that there is no medical reason why a woman on the pill needs to have a withdrawal bleed every month. Some women get worried they’re pregnant without a monthly period, but I’m not one of them. No periods=bliss!
I’ve not gained any weight, my face dioesnt’t break out. No other strange side effects.

I’ve done it, we had a trip to Cuba and it was the one time I did it. Nothing bad happened, just skipped a period. Doctor said it’s safe, I’ve had friends who’s doctors recommended it.

If I took pills, I’d definitely do it! I was on depo for a few years and then I’ve been on Implanon going on 3. The only time I’ve had a period is the one month when I switched from depo to implanon. When I have periods again, I’m not going to know what to do!

I think everyone’s body is different, but I skip it all the time, unless I have to plan around something I have a period every 4 packs, so every 3 months. I’ve tried to go longer and the only thing that happened was I had spotting, my body was like nope, girl you need to have your period. I do think my emotions are a bit more affected by my hormones when I have it than they used to be, but I don’t even consider that a side effect. Having a period every 3 months is perfectly safe for most people, there’s a reason the FDA approved Seasonique!
One thing I might check though is if your birth control is monophasic (same amount each week in the pack) or triphasic (each week has a different amount). I feel like skipping periods works better with monophasic, because it’s just all at the same level any ways, but I have absolutely nothing to support or refute that idea.
ETA: Lol, looks like my hypothesis was right!
