I definitely think it’s okay to skip this extra expense and put your money elsewhere. I like your idea of having a friend take some pictures of you. You could also look into the option of hiring a photography student- he or she might be super cheap and might enjoy gaining experience.

My photographer recommends taking engagement pictures so that she gets to know the couple better and the couple learns to feel comfortable/natural in front of the camera. But there are other ways for these two things to happen without hiring a professional photographer for enagement pics.

Love your idea of a restaurant wedding reception- those are the best!

I’m skipping them because while I don’t mind perusing other people’s engagement photos… I don’t NEED them. I’m torn on whether or not I find them “cheesy”. I certianly don’t laugh or think poorly of other couples for getting them, and I enjoy seeing them… I jut don’t get the point of engagement photos. I don’t want to display them at my wedding, I didn’t need them for Save The Dates, and I feel like there will be enough great pictures at  the actual wedding to blast up my social media…. Considering the cost money and I don’t think I need them… I’m fine with skipping. So many other things cost $$$ in this wedding, if there’s a thing I’m “meh” about, it’s great to skip!

We won’t be doing engagement photos. I don’t feel that they’re necessary.
